Yes, sales are down all around. But in times like these you need to be better than your competition to snag what sales there are.
While there is a lot of information in the item specifics block I have seen way too many times that when the lister gets to the written description block and all they do is copy and paste the headline - or worse just leave it blank. It is not enough to LIST an item. You have to create a BUZZ about the item.
I am of the belief that item specifics are for the benefit of the search engine. But I want to see some good old fashion words about what I am about to buy, why it is the right thing to buy and why I should buy it from you, not someone else. Absent that I am going somewhere else.
Take the features expressed in the items specifics and expand upon them in the description. Don’t assume that everybody understands the significance or advantage of a particular feature. Maybe I am a first time buyer of this particular product buying it as a gift. I want to be convinced I am getting the right/best product.
Don’t just SHOW me item - SELL me the item. If you can not be bothered to do that then my knee jerk reaction is that you are lazy or inexperienced. In my generation those were things to be frowned upon.
If you can not be bothered to tell me why I should buy from you I am not going to buy from you.

Agreed with everything you wrote. I also will hit the back button quickly when I select a listing that has zero description and only uses the photos and the headline....

When am I actually searching for those details? My searches search the item header. Or if advanced, the description text.
I used to try to enter the details then last year Ebay reorganized our categories and wiped the details from the listings, recommending we reinput them in the revised template. I spent literally days of my life entering the details on the 1000's of listings Ebay wiped. I'M NOT DOING IT AGAIN.
The search works so poorly anyway it seems to have been dumbed down on purpose. Most of the time I am getting told what Ebay wants me to see, not what I'm searching for. You think that might harm our sales? I am searching now within my own active listings for Maine, but ebay keeps giving me Main St. I added brackets e.g., "Maine" and got the same result. I add "Maine", -"Main St". This gives me fewer results and actually removes some of the actual Maine listings. Are we not supposed to search our own Active listings anymore? Someone from Ebay reached out and asked me about this complaint seems like it was in August but nothing has changed.
I do like that the new description block is much more concise and easier to breeze past to get to the price and Save LIsting.
