I tried to sell my vinyl record we are the world and ebay said I was not in policy and took it of and shut me down for a couple of days. I understand you can not post records that say not for sale but what is wrong with my record we are the world I don't see anything that says not for sale.

Without more information about your item, it is hard to speculate.  Can you post your images of the record, and other details?

That's news to me- there are promos sold on eBay every day.

You would need to post the exact text of the message eBay sent to you, otherwise anyone here would be just guessing what the problem might be.

you're talking about records that say promotional copy only not for sale printed into record label. I have seen them on ebay for sale a lot.

The RIGHT OF FIRST SALE DOCTRINE gives one the right to sell the Demo Copies of vinyl of which you speak - not for sale notes on vinyl have an expiration - once that title is removed from production in that format, then that notation no longer applies and that copy can be sold/resold. At least that is how a lawyer once explained it to me.  That is what aids in their value, making them a rare copy.

As for why the ad was removed, I'd have to see it to try to determine an answer to that situation.

I have sold several copies of that album with NO problem.

Do you get an error msg when you listed it ?

A lot of collectors prefer the promo copies, as they are the first pressings and therefore the true 'first'. Much like the pre-publication books sent out for reviews, the true 1st edition. It is perfectly legal to sell either item.

You will have to tell us EXACTLY what eBay said. I have never heard eBay using the term "not in policy", so I suspect they said there was a policy that prevented you from listing the item.

Many eBay policies have nothing to do with the item you are selling - for instance there are policies against duplicate items, policies against contact information in listings, policies about search manipulation, policies about javascript in listings, policies about links in listings, etc. etc. etc.
