Vile eBay Feedback Policy

Just got off the phone with an eBay representative.   Absolutely vomit-inducing.

 

We try to be so **bleep** careful about our descriptions.  Got negative feedback from a buyer who called the man-made product silly and random.  Um, the product IS SUPPOSED TO BE THAT WAY.  It's in **bleep** English in the description - something a middle schooler would make.  

 

The rep said because it's the buyer's opinion, it can't be taken off.  Really?  So if I sold a board book and the buyer says - I didn't like the topic and gave negative feedback, that's perfectly okay?  Does eBay not want sellers?  Is that the end goal here?  

 

I'm going to look into something else.  This is absolutely, unbelievably sickening.

There is nothing "vile" about the buyers negative feedback, IMO. Believe me, I've seen worse.

Feedback is not used by eBay to measure member accounts.

You can add a Response to any feedback, your own or left for you.

 

Wait until you have cooled down.  Oops, too late.

You can list on 'something else' and you won't get the amount of 'views' or sales that you get here.. combined. 

 

So, don't shoot yourself in the foot. You really need to NOT let negs get you so spun out- it's just not that important.

It's absolutely vile. This buyer hurt our feedback rating because of his OPINION.  It's like me buying a movie on eBay and ruining a seller's feedback because I didn't like the plot.  

 

That is vile.

My understanding is that it is important especially since I have so little feedback.  

 

It's the concept.  He didn't message me.  He gave negative feedback based on what the product is!  We didn't hide it.  The product IS silly and random.  If he doesn't like that, then why did he buy it?  It's in the freaking description - something a middle schooler would make.

 

It's sickening that eBay allows buyers to help ruin a seller's business on a random whim.

I'm livid.   It's beyond unbelievable that eBay allows someone to completely ignore the description and give negative feedback based on an opinion of the product that was described accurately.  If he didn't like products that are silly and random, why did he buy it?  I could see if we described it as anything but silly and random.  But we didn't.  We were blatantly honest about it.  My understanding is that negative feedback seriously hurts the seller.

I have a top rated seller.  I guess if I put that I accept returns, that feedback disappears?

There are new protections for Top Rated Sellers that offer 30 day returns for faulty returns.  I don't think the protections apply to just feedback without a return being involved.

 

Ebay used to do something about product reviews, but they don't seem to now.   Most sellers that have been around awhile receive bad feedback here and there which they disagree with.  Just move on and keep selling.  I've had my fair share.  I got one once that said "No good seller" and they didn't even pay.  Back in the day, that stayed with me for a year with no removal. Smiley Frustrated

Buyers are allowed to have an opinion and as long as the feedback doesn't violate the policy, they won't remove it.

I guess I'm at a loss as to why eBay insists on destroying sellers.  Without sellers, there would be no eBay.  It's inexplicable.  

 

Forgive me, so what you're saying is if I change my return policy to 30 day returns, that feedback would be scrubbed?

That's where it's wrong.  What if a buyer buys a movie, doesn't like the plot and gives negative feedback.  So it's the seller's fault that the buyer didn't like the plot.  

 

That's what eBay is saying here.  That doesn't even rise to the level of being wrong.

I didn't say that---someone else did, but I disagreed.

 

One bad feedback should not destroy you.  Trust me, just keep selling and move on.    If you have a pattern of bad feedback, then buyers may shy away.   I don't even look when I'm buying.

  Although with few sales/feedback(s) it can make a feedback %age  appear low,  a calm sensible reply can be made to feedback. Potential buyers would be able look at feedback and see if a buyer is wrong.
