I just sold an item on ebay to an unscrupulous buyer. All listings are no return because of previous return issues. This woman bought a necklace. After she received it she said she didn't like it and didn't like the way it laid on her neck and wanted to return it. I called ebay, they said I didn't have to accept the return so I told her no and why. She was nasty, replied that she would leave negative feedback and I would hear from her credit card company. Ebay removed the negative feedback and removed the return request. She then went to her credit card company and told them the purchase was an unauthorized transaction thru paypal. I called paypal, they said I was covered, I provided paypal proof of delivery, proof of her lying and was told they would investigate. When that didn't work for the buyer she went back to her credit card company and told them the item was not as described, which was also a lie. Paypal and ebay would now NOT SUPPORT ME, PROVIDE SELLER PROTECTION OR HELP IN ANYWAY.
ALWAYS CHECK BUYERS FEEDBACK LEFT FOR OTHERS!!! if they have a history of leaving negative or neutral feedback BEWARE!!!!!!

Again, my item was listed as no return - because of other unscrupulous buyers. She did not have to bid, she could have contacted me before she bid, she has a history of abusing other sellers. Hopefully she will be banned from ebay. This kind of behavior is why sellers quit!!
The thing many people miss is that, on ebay, they don't care if you don't accept returns. No returns, okay, let the buyer keep it or toss it, big deal - not.
However, on ebay there is no such thing as no refunds. Had you told her to keep it and refunded, there would not have been a problem - on her end.

All my listings are free shipping
and 60 day Returns with free return shipping ...
for any reason, including buyer remorse.
Right or wrong, buyers will need to return things.
Even if your description, pictures, and listings are perfect.
Trying to state you wont' accept returns, period, may not be conducive to the reality of online selling now.
It's virtually impossible to stop a buyer from returning and item (or at least getting a refund) for an item they don't like.
Sellers like myself, expect an occasional return.. which does cost us money.
But the money lost on a small percentage of returns.. is offset
by the Increase in sales and profits, we get from prospective buyers who buy from us, because we easily accept returns, instead of buying from no-return sellers.

Blocking those with more than two returns would cost you business from good buyers who received SNAD items.

@ptheb4ch wrote:that is ridiculous, my listing was no return, she should not have bid. She could have contacted me prior to bidding. period. Sellers should be able to list as they prefer without buyer fraud. She should be held accountable. She should also be banned from ebay.
If a buyer opens a not as described case and wins, it will not matter what your listing says about no returns or refunds. In this case, it would probably be considered buyer's remorse so perhaps you can refuse to refund, but in other cases when there is something wrong with an item, do you think your no returns policy should be the final word? Honest buyers should just have to lose out because they bought from someone who said no returns or no refunds? eBay's MBG prevents that most of the time.
Your buyer could have simply gone to Paypal and opened a case and gotten a refund where they paid the return shipping.

@ptheb4ch wrote:I think ebay ENABLES bad buyer behavior and DOES NOT ALWAYS PROTECT SELLERS. This is a perfect example. Sellers HAVE NO RECOURSE
With all due respect, this isn't the perfect example. Ebay backed the seller and told her she did not have to accept the return and removed the return. The buyer then went to her credit card company. Credit card companies generally prevail.
It is wrong to claim unauthorized transaction if you did buy something. You have to sign an affidavit to that effect, and credit card companies frown on frivolous disputes.

shameful. I just ended 13 of my listings and will not relist. sadly ebay does not care about sellers or losing them. I have been on ebay since 1999 and have 3 accounts. last week I canceled 2 bids because the buyers had a history of leaving negative feedback.

I just ended 13 of my listings. obviously ebay does not care about long term ebayers. we can't leave buyers negative feedback, they are allowed to hold items hostage without paying for a week, it is shameful.

bless your heart. having integrity doesn't seem to pay. I just ended 13 of my listings, don't need this.

it was buyer remorse and she lied. this kind of buyer is why sellers quit.

Except that EBay is working to be on an even keel with other selling sites and modern internet expectations.
”No returns” remains your right on EBay (barely), but it’s a bit of a dinosaur and EBay doesn’t try very hard to back it.
Adapt or not. This was the result.

And why buyers leave.

I wouldn’t disagree....but modern internet shopping expectations are changing. And we aren’t going to win the argument.
Is this the hill you want to die on?

What you should have done was say you'd accept the return but she would have to pay return shipping.
Get it back, refund, done deal, move on.
The item was sold as no returns. The OP was not obligated to take the return. And the fact that the buyer lied to the credit card company does make her "unscrupulous" in my world. Obviously we live in different worlds.

It's because negative feedback was abused and false feedback was posted as retaliation in response to a buyer's honest neg. This false feedback caused some buyers to leave Ebay.
