Variation Listing Issue

I don’t know if it’s me or ebay, but doing variation listings makes me cross-eyed. I did create one variation listing. Now I want to do another but I’m encountering an issue. I want to add my own attributes, but when I try to do so, this message pops up: “to add this attribute, remove the value added for it in Item Specifics. For example, Size, Color, or Material."

So I made sure all item specifics were blank and not filled in, but this message still pops up. I don’t find doing a variation listing to be easy or user-friendly. As I said, I managed to do one, but didn’t encounter this issue, probably because I didn’t need to add my own attributes. This listing is for three dollhouse miniature tables, three different types, same color, same price. "Type" is the attribute I'm trying to add.

Does anyone have any insight on what I'm doing wrong? Thanks in advance

Variation Listing Issue

Here's the thing about variation listings:

eBay destroyed them when they moved variations below item specifics. Such a stupid move.

Variations used to be above item specifics so you'd rarely, if ever, encounter this problem.

You need to fill out all variation info before filling out any item specifics as a best practice.

In addition, something funky has been happening with the listing form lately where removing an item specific is not always recognized so sometimes you have to save as a draft after deleting an item specific then go back into the draft and try again.

There are some fields you cannot use for variations (type may be one of them?) but when that happens the error message is different, so I don't think that's what's happening here.

Thank you. They do like to "fix" (break) things that don't need fixing, don't  they?  It would make sense to have that option above item specifics.

I'll try your suggestion re saving the draft and then going back in. Fingers crossed.

Ebay has reserve words that can not be used for attributes.  For instance you can not create your own attributes using words reserved for Items Specifics.  So instead of using "type" try using "types".

It’s not telling you that the value in the Item Specifics is the same, it’s the actual field name. You can’t change the names of the fields in the Item Specifics, so you have to change your variation field name. Instead of Type, try a different word or phrase. I don’t know what kind of values you’re planning to enter for Type, but if you let us know we can suggest some alternatives.
