It's not a mystery to me.

You can watch an item right from the search results without viewing it.

I do it all the time.

Re: VIEWS????

Those page view counts were never very good.   Can't depend on them to be right.  It's only sales that count.

Re: VIEWS????

You're gonna keel over as a youngster if you keep worrying about something you can do nothing about - eBay's views have always been questionable, and this includes before when they included bot views.

Re: VIEWS????

Same way an item can have 500+ views and 20 watchers and 4 sold in 3 days, then 6 views, no watchers and no sales the next 3. Because eBay is either broken or sales are manipulated. I'm leaning towards the latter.

Re: VIEWS????

Have your listings dropped from the top 20% on your impressions?

If they have, it is likely that no one is ever viewing your listings because all of the searches are broad and no one cared this month or last month.

Re: VIEWS????

I can honestly say I have never searched for my listings, looked at view or watchers.  As said upthread the only thing that matters is the CHA-CHING!

This quest stands on the edge of a blade...stray but a little and you shall fail to the ruin of us all.

Re: VIEWS????

People can view items from the search results.  This does not translate to a view stat on your stats page, because that represents a click-through.  When I shop on here, I often look at the search results, and if what I see there isn't interesting enough (namely price), I'm not going to click through to the item listing.

That said, Ebay still has a major flaw in its code where NEWLY listed items are highly features on the site to the exclusion of other items.  This wasn't a problem until GTC was initiated as items would be renewed and hence items would be equally features on the site.  But when GTC was initiated, items older than 30 days would just be swept to the bottom of the pile and no one would get to see them.  Promoted items listings does help in this regard, making it a requirement so your item gets seen even at all.  But it's still an issue that causes items to not be seen on the site.  As well, it's good to point out that I notice my items get seen a lot more when I'm listing NEW items on the site as well, which seems to translate into sales.

That said, ending older items and relisting them seems to be a necessity on the site to me if you want to be noticed.  Along with promoting items, as I probably get 85-90% of my sales now from that.

Re: VIEWS????

If it was correct information, It could be a useful tool to measure the interest with certain products.

Re: VIEWS????

I don't think I ever looked at my "views". I just post items and if they sell that is good....if I sell nothing then I have free time on my hands. This is just extra cash and not a full time job that I depend on.

I had a strong August and a weak September and now it is turning into a strong October.

I would rather spend my time listing items then wondering about "views".

I'd definitely agree with that if I had all my stuff sell in a reasonable amount of time and I had to worry about listing new items more than dropping dead weight.  But I have so many "no-sells" over the course of my time on ebay that I end up having to just give away because they don't sell even after months at the lowest price I can offer it at without losing money.   Namely because there's some sellers on site dropping items at far cheaper prices than I can even ship them.  I'm guessing probably I drop 85% of the stuff I've listed for that reason.  I look at views to determine what's working and what isn't, along with "Sold" items in that time period.

To that extent, it's amazing how many things I drop that has gotten exactly zero views since I listed them, which have sales from other vendors.  So I get where OP and others  come from totally on this.  100%.  But it's more a reflection that ebay just doesn't work for a lot of sellers - to that end, when I get to the point where I really don't need the money I do get from ebay sales, I'm off the site.  Ebay just doesn't deliver what it claims, which is the dirty little secret that seems to keep getting proclaimed here in posts like the OPs.  It may be better for those investing tens of thousands of dollars in very specific inventory, but for people like me that's just dropping excess stuff they have, it just doesn't work.
