Why does eBay charge VAT on second hand items we sell, when the VAT law states,
''If the seller is a private individual selling their own used property in the EU or UK then no VAT is payable. That is because the VAT was paid for the item when it was first bought. In effect the VAT is considered already included''

"Vat" are you talking about? (Just kidding!)
Possibly you are going through the GSP, and while it states import charges, those are Pitney Bowes charges.
Just a thought.

You would be better off asking this question on the UK Board where most people will actually know what VAT is.
Here in Canada, our VAT (called GST) is charged on used goods as well as new. Provincial sales taxes vary, but most do charge PST on used goods.
Context is everything.
