Using Coupons?

Is there any limitations on what a customer can do with a coupon I send them? I want to send coupons to anyone who was affected by the lost bag of mail (that I posted about yesterday), but if they can't be used in all categories, that might not be a good idea.

Categories would be coins and stamps.

I do know that if I send an offer to a customer, it's either the coupon or the offer, they can't take the offer and use the coupon. (Is that correct?)

Never did coupons before since I usually just send offers, but I think it would be appropriate to give my customers something to make up for their lost item.

With coupons you have a wide range of options, so you can kind of aim specifically at a category, or be very inclusive with multiple categories.  If you send an offer out they won't be able to use coupons, with that offer.  I'd suggest playing around with all the options available, worst case scenario you can cancel it.

Offer exclusive discounts to buyers by using a coded coupon Select Create a

promotion , then Coupons . Add an image and a short description for the coupon.

Please do spend some time on learning all of the option with coupons, you can create private ones to test. In my opinion, this is one of the best tool to use to get repeat buyer and feedbacks.

Thanks to everyone who replied.

I created a few different one-time-use coupons for those who are affected by the missing mailbag (the coupon will be based on how much they original spent, and what sorts of things they buy).

eBay gives me a coupon on supplies and I have to pay shipping (I'm in Canada, so I don't get free shipping). Does the coupon the customer get cover shipping? Like if I give someone a $15 coupon and they buy a $10 coin, can the use the other $5 for shipping?
