Using 3rd Party Shipping Hubs to Bypass Shipping in the US Only

Hello everyone, this is a new one for me, so I thought I'd ask.

For my Auctions, I have made sure to limit my shipping to the Continental US Only, and I've done this via the Auction Description itself, and also within the Shipping Parameters, set up via Ebay, when making the listing.

What I have found recently, is that I have had some auctions that have the strangest shipping addresses. When checked these addresses are coming back to International Shipping Hubs.

One of my Auction sales ended up going to the UK, where they wanted to make a claim of damages between the Hub location, and the UK. The buyer acct. is listed in the US.

Another ended up heading to South America (same as the other, acct. is listed as a US acct.), where they did file a claim of Non-Delivery, and won. Mind you this was despite the USPS verifying it was delivered to the Hub and an Agent there. Granted it was $36, so thankfully I came off light.

I was curious to see if this is a common practice now, and if so, does anyone have suggestions to better protect ourselves as sellers?

I ship within the Continental US because it's just far easier, and safer in my opinion. But after these two incidents, I'm definitely trying to be more careful now.

Thanks in advance!

You mention "hubs"..........but I'm not sure what you mean.........do you mean reshippers?

That's exactly what they mean.

Yet, here is another seller making a claim they shipped to the US address, to the forwarder, and they ended up losing the case because it got "lost" between the US and the international destination. eBay again, is NOT following it's OWN policy.

Not long ago, there was a discussion about this VERY same issue. Most were busy licking the eBay corporate boot. Combine this with eBay hiding user feedback, so sellers can't even verify anything about potential buyers. No, it's just my imagination that eBay is purposely setting up a situation to encourage scammers.

Two sellers making a similar claim in a week? That's not a coincidence or a glitch. It's a pattern that eBay is forcing sellers who opt out of international sales, to partake in international sales.  The risk of theft and the lack of protections are exactly why most seller who opt out, are opting out.

In this case, accept the return and provide a return shipping label from the reshipper back to you. It is up to the buyer to get the package back to the reshipper.

Another ended up heading to South America (same as the other, acct. is listed as a US acct.), where they did file a claim of Non-Delivery

In this case, simply enter the tracking number into the INR case that shows delivery to the reshipper.   You win.

I ship to ebay shipping center and I like getting a sale outside the us because there is no danger of returns, returns are not allowed. Go with eBay international and they will take care of you, never any problems.

I've been thru this with 2 damage claims to Japan.   In researching Ebay policy for "Items not as Described" claims coverage, the following is a stated exclusion.   Not covered:   The buyer used third party freight forwarders or mail redirection.    I pointed this out to the agents, and the claim was closed.

"...where they did file a claim of Non-Delivery, and won. Mind you this was despite the USPS verifying it was delivered to the Hub and an Agent there. Granted it was $36, so thankfully I came off light...."

This is troubling me....they have never not ruled in my favor with shipping forwarders.....did you follow the INR protocols "to the letter" after you were advised of the situation. Did ebay acknowledge delivery after you provided them with the tracking proof? Did you provide the return label from the freight forwarder to you? I ask only because if you followed the protocols, and do not win an appeal, this is a bad precedent.....

This case would not involve providing a return label as it was an Item Not Received dispute, not a Not As Described dispute. (For the dispute with the buyer in the UK, yes, issuing a return label from the reshipper would have been the right step to follow.)

@ravenholt1139 : Did the tracking show USPS Delivered to the City and ZIP of the Ship-To: address you received with the payment? Did you upload that to the dispute case? Did you buy that shipping label at the post office, or through eBay? If the latter, your tracking number should have been automatically added to the sale record, but if you bought the label yourself, did you upload that to the transaction when shipping it out? Your proof of delivery should have resulted in eBay closing that case in your favor.

@a_c_green

THANKS for the clarification....my post came off as confusing (not enough coffee yet)

I was bunching together the incidents....and meant to refer that line to the "damaged" part....

"...One of my Auction sales ended up going to the UK, where they wanted to make a claim of damages between the Hub location, and the UK. The buyer acct. is listed in the US....."

When they filed the INR, did you respond to the case and upload the tracking number showing it was delivered to the freight forwarder?

Have a great day.

Returns are allowed, no matter how you ship.

Totally incorrect. You are responsible for SNAD's. You can't issue a return label. You will be forced to refund without getting the product back.

It isn’t a “pattern.” It’s perfectly within the rules. Moreover, most international buyers use the forwarders because it’s cheaper.

Utterly off topic and LOL - I know you’re OG Ebay because you wrote “SNAD” instead of “INAD.”

Yes, I apologize. The addresses were to re-shippers, who take the items, and then ship them out of Country.
