I'd like my email address to be similar to my username and store name. How different from my username does my email have to be? Can I just add a period or a dash between the words?
Thanks in advance

A period between the words should work. I have one like that.

I might have missed something as I've never heard that they have to be totally different but you can't use the full email address as your ebay ID. For example, your email address might be janedoe@gmail.com so you could use janedoe as your ebay ID. You could not use janedoe@gmail.com as your ebay ID.
You might want to keep in mind that it might be easier to spam your email if it is that similar to you ebay ID. I don't know if that happens but its just a thought.

eBay stopped allowing email addresses as user names because scammers were sending fake offers, you have been paid notices and second chance offers.

Here's a link to the policy page about user IDs. I don't see any requirement for your user ID to be different from the front part of your email address. I have two user IDs that are in the form janedoe with email janedoe@gmail.com

It sounds like you are asking for advice how to get around an Ebay policy. If you have an email with Johndoe@gmail and expect to make your username Johndoe.gmail it would violate policy.

I think the idea is that if your email address is janedoe@gmail.com you would not be permitted to have a username janedoe-at-gmail-dot-com or anything that could be interpreted that way.
eBay does not want someone to be able to look at your username and figure out your email address.

They don't have to be totally different.
As long as your username is NOT a email address and meets ebay's criteria.
USERNAME: bobsgeneralstore
EMAIL: bobsgeneralstore@gmail.com

Thanks for your reply. I'm not looking to "get around" eBay policy -- I'm looking to comply with AND keep all written parts of "my brand" linked as well as possible within those policies. 🙂

User names cannot include "@", ".com", ".net", ".co.uk", ".de", ".gmail", ".hotmail" or anything similar. You cannot substitute "." or "@" with "dot" or "-" or anything like that which would make it obvious that it's an email address or web address.
As others mentioned, your user name can be the first half (everything before the "."), all of my user names are like that. If you add .com you will get my website (does not include this posting id).
If you see a user id that looks like that check the registration date, user names prior to 2001 are grandfathered, any user name created after 2001 would be a violation.
There are a few old user names that are still around that are like "xxxxataol" they would be pre-2001.
