Used Perfume Selling Questions

Hi!  Is anyone else having issues selling gently used perfume? I didn’t have any issues until this past month.

eBay keeps saying my perfumes are counterfeit when they are not. Does that mean someone is reporting them as counterfeit?

I deleted all my perfumes, but they were the exact same ones many other people are selling. And I see many used perfumes for sale

It seems weird to be singled out. Thanks for any insight.

Used perfume is NOT allowed!

https://www.ebay.com/help/policies/prohibited-restricted-items/cosmetics-policy?id=4290

You were not singled out! eBay will pull any listing for used cosmetics, it takes time for them to find them so not every listing gets taken down immediately.

To bring out the tired cliche, not all speeders get caught but that doesn't mean speeding is allowed.

The reason i was given is counterfeit. Is that the same as not allowed? They should say not allowed

I listed several old bottles this month without any problems, but I didn't list them in the cosmetics category.  It was in collectables.  Here's a screen shot of the category --

Bottles are usually fine. Liquid in the bottle is when you may start having issues.

Could be the makers going after you. I think it was Chanel that has been going down hard on resellers of their stuff for instance. Some people have been sued for over $100,000 if I recall correctly.

Perfectly legit stuff but seen as counterfeit by the manufacturer since it's not them selling it.

It wasn’t Chanel, I’m done selling perfume, I don’t want to break their rules. Wish they would have said not allowed instead of counterfeit though.

Could be the eBay employee that ended the listings just made a mistake about exactly which reason to use to  describe why the listing was ended.  But yes, used cosmetics are not allowed in the "cosmetics" category,  you need to selling open bottles of perfume as "collectibles".

@trkokem0  Good plan not to even try relisting.  Once an item is flagged on your account, you are on the radar (as it were) and you could get suspended for trying again.

You’re right, I was suspended 3 days. I took all the perfume down and won’t sell anymore. Thanks!

You might look at one of my listings (they are still available under my feedback) and see how I described them and  photographed the bottles.  I made sure to address any issues of authenticity with personal knowledge of the origin the bottles.

Hi @trkokem0

I was under the impression that only used perfumes with applicators were not allowed.

The ‘counterfeit’ aspect might have been an error on the part of the rep.

It’s always best NOT to relist any item that’s been pulled … regardless of the reason.
