Hello,
My shop sells collectible cards. For a particular listing for a card I can have several variants, each being a unique card and a photo is tied to that variant so the buyer can see the card they are purchasing. I was wondering if I could have the listing default image default to a variant image. Currently I have a stock image as the default, but that doesnt attract buyers as much.
Some work arounds that I do not prefer:
- Add a variant image to the default image pool and use that.
- However if that variant sells that image would no longer be valid and could be confusing to buyers.
- Have a unique listing for each variant.
- I use bigcommerce to sync my inventory so this might be difficult and makes it harder for buyers to build a shopping cart with my shop.
Ideally the listing would just default the image to an in-stock variant. Any help appreciated! Thanks!

You are not using Variants correctly as you cannot have one item $5 and one item $500 In the Same Listing. The 'variants' are supposed to all be the same price, or within 10% or so, like a shirt would have variants of SM/MD/LG and Blue/Black/Red etc. Only would a size of XXL or so be allowed to raise the $20 price of that listing to $22 or so.
Regarding the 'default'- it's always the First Picture. There is no changing that. But, you should fix your listings before they, and you, get removed.

Ok thanks for the information on the default always being the first picture. Could you provide any documentation you have on the rules for variants and the price, I cannot find anything. I have seen other similar shops do the same thing so I figured it was standard practice, but will remove if there are rules against it. Thanks!

I don't know where that is; but I've seen MANY posts by buyers that are UPSET and blame eBay and/or Sellers for 'Bait & Switch' as they search for and it comes up as $5 (especially when that searcher then filters for 'price lowest first) and they see a thingy for $5, then click the item only to find the thing they REALLY were looking for is $200.
I've seen an employee post that the system was designed as I stated with pricing should be as I stated.
It's not good business at best.

Ok thanks for the perspective. The big price jumps occur when the card is a foil vs non foil, so I will break those out into different products. Appreciate the insight!
