Upgrading to a basic store

Hi, I was hoping I could get some insight on upgrading and what I will need.  I have managed payments now with separate checking account but it is not a business account.  Will I need to change to a business account to upgrade to the basic store?  Thanks

@cirich6543

No you don't, there is no connection between your registration and what level of Store you can have.

No. Subscribing to a store with a non-business checking account is fine.  I do it.

Just as little advice.

I would strongly consider NOT subscribing to a store unless you plan on listing more than 250 items.

You do not need to be a business account for a basic store, but with 250 free listings each month without a store, unless you have more than that I honestly would not waste my money.

Having a store does not give you any more exposure, nor does it allow you to increase any listing limit you may currently be on as a new or returning seller.

Thank you, I am getting very close to my 250 listings and was worried about paying insertion fee as I have tons more to list.

I would also note that 250+ listings isn't the only reason to upgrade to a store, sometimes it makes sense with FVF discounts. As a store I get a 4+% discount on FVF fees in the coins category, so when I ran the numbers (quite a while ago), I found if I did something like $700 in monthly gross sales (tax, shipping and all, of course), then I would break even on my FVF discount / for monthly Store subscription (at the monthly rate, not accounting for an annual subscription at a cheaper rate). Basically any more in sales over $700, I was saving money paying for a store and saving on FVF.

It's worth running the numbers, especially if you sell in one or a couple specific categories. But I suppose # of listings and $$ in sales may go hand in hand.

I would argue that a store may be logical (for one month) if you did 1 listing and it was for a high value sale. I see people selling a several thousand dollar lot and its like, dude, you'd save some nice $$$ if you did a store subscription for just 1 month.

Long story short, if you plan to do 250+ listings OR have high sales, store makes sense. Otherwise, not. Only do it if it will SAVE you money.

The basic store is a very good value.

Thank you so much, I have doing this just since September of last year, I do love it and have kicking around this store thing for a while.  I have been weighing the savings, the quarterly shipping credit against the subscription price.  Just kills me to bite the bullet and jump.  Is there any more as a store that can be done with TeraPeak?

If you have any reservations about the Store, then sign up for month-to-month at first, rather than making a full year commitment.

The term "basic" can be confusing, since the lowest level of Store subscription is called "Starter" and the next level up is called 'Basic."  With a Starter store, you only get 250 free insertions per month, which is the same as you'd get with no store.  Some new sellers think they'll still get the original 250 plus the Starter store 250, but they don't.

Also before considering any further expansion, you should double-check your listing limits, which are not affected by signing up for a Store subscription.

I have no idea about TeraPeak, honestly don't use any it or many things EBay offers.

Completely honestly, I don't consider the quarterly shipping supply credit to be of great value since the credit is only good through one seller and you can get many things cheaper elsewhere. I mean you're paying for EBay branded stuff. So... I mean, yeah, you're getting a $25 credit but what does it get you? Some stuff you could have gotten for $10-$15 elsewhere? (Again, you get the EBay logo). So i take advantage of it, but I wouldn't consider it like a tipping point factor for me.

I'm all about the numbers. It would literally be insane for me to not have a store, because I would be losing money. My sales are real slow this month because I haven't been putting a whole lot of effort in, but I know I will do at least $2,000 gross sales without any effort month to month, but last month my gross sales (item, tax, shipping) was like $9,000... So some quick math tells me I paid $28, for a store for the month and saved $360 in FVF fees for that same month.

My opinion, look at the numbers. If you have consistent sales, you're close to break even or you're going to save money, then take the plunge. Also, that doesnt even account for listing insertion fees.

It is all about that bottom line, right?

Your Store is an excellent case study of a seller who has fewer than 250 listings, but for whom a Basic store is a good investment due to the savings on final value fees.  But the OP has some growing to do before they reach that status: They have sold less than $1000 in the past 90 days.
