Updating the Blocked User List

As time goes by my blocked user list has grown. Is there a way to keep this updated so that buyers that are no longer on the platform will be removed? I do know that if a buyer deletes their account they do in fact stay in the blocked list. This seems to be a very cluttered way to do things.

Updating the Blocked User List

eBay automatically removes names from your BBL when accounts are closed, but it does require an update on the seller's part. An update can include adding/removing a name from the list or simply opening the list and saving changes without actually making any changes. The save function triggers the auto-removal of deleted accounts. eBay does not remove open accounts that are inactive.

Buyers who are blocked and removed can just open another account on another ID & they'll be able to bid on your items again.  Something I wish eBay would work on.

Yes, but if the seller catches it, they can cancel those orders. Here's my standard advice when a buyer uses a different ID to circumvent the BBL.

-----

Circumventing the block is a violation and sellers can cancel those sales and report the buyer:

When you report a buyer there is no specific reporting selection for buyers circumventing blocks. I usually select a reason that ties to why I blocked them in the first place, even if it's not an exact match, or go with 'demanding something not included in the listing' since that's most closely related to buyer demanding to make a purchase when their ID is blocked. There are real people reading these reports so it's fine if the reason code is a bit off. Once you drill down and select a reason the comment box will appear where you can explain why you're reporting them.

I put ID [id # 1] on blocked list, buyer attempting to circumvent block with new ID [id #2]. Did not find a specific circumventing a block selection under the report flow so I selected the option that most closely fit the situation.

Updating the Blocked User List

I remember a time when I looked at my block list and at the bottom was the I.D.'s of members who were no longer registered on eBay. I deleted those to clean it up.

I have not seen that in what seems like 4+ years, so I don't delete any on my current list.

Sure: any IDs on your list that are 11 random characters followed by "@Deleted" are no longer on eBay and can be deleted. You can remove them manually and then click the Submit button, or you can do this semi-automatically by temporarily adding an ID and submitting that, which will trigger an automatic cleanup for you. (Don't forget to remove the ID you temporarily added, unless you want to leave it in.)

When you submit an update to your BBL and there are old entries to purge, you will see an ugly red banner line:

BBL_Error.jpg

Clicking on "See all" in the above message will produce a list of all the deleted IDs that have been discarded. Somewhat confusingly, it's presented as a list of error messages, as if somehow this was all your fault:

You're all done with cleanup at that point.

Everyone gave great advice so I only wanted to add one thing I do as well because my list is lengthy with buyers that have caused me all kinds of problems. Every 6 months to a year a save a copy of my list into my documents folder. You just never know with glitches and updates.
