--Final Update, October 28--
The category changes announced in our Fall Seller Update have been completed.
Now that all category changes are complete, while you might still see some adjustments to searches, it is okay to update or edit your listings without concerns of losing data or having it moved again.
We appreciate your feedback on this roll-out. We'll continue to adjust the process based on the input we’ve received here, and we'll take all of these suggestions into consideration for future updates.
As this project is now complete the post is being locked from further comments.
Resources and observations
We’ve heard from you that updating your Item Specifics in time for the February 2022 requirement date may be a challenge.
A useful tool that may help is located in the Seller Hub under Listing>Active. There is a drop-down box labeled ‘Download’ which will generate an Excel document for ‘Missing Required or Recommended Item Specifics’. You can read more about this tool here.
Should you come across any inaccuracies within the new Item Specifics we ask that you report those directly to sdsupport@ebay.com so our team can investigate. Outside of that, please share suggestions as to changes you'd like to see going forward here, selecting the Categories and Item Specifics option.
---Update as of October 19th---
We apologize for this delayed update. Thank you for your patience while our teams worked to finalize category changes.
All listings have been moved to their final destination categories. You may now proceed with checking your categories, revising items, and updating item specifics where needed.
Some item specifics have been renamed, and the value you originally provided has been copied over to the new item specific, so you don’t need to re-add these item specifics. We encourage you to update your listings with item specifics that are showing as “Required Soon.” These will become required on February 22, 2022.
All other item specifics are either Recommended or Optional. Learn more about item specifics.
Some categories were retired and replaced by product-based categories. You and your buyers can still find the items you’re looking for. Simply browse to the product category of your choice and use the filters to refine your search.

---Update as of October 14th---
The work continues on this move and is progressing according to plan. We are on track and anticipate all category changes for your listings to be complete by end of day tomorrow (10.15). Thank you for your patience while our teams implement these changes.
---Update as of October 13th---
We continue to work through this change and thank you for your patience as our teams work through it. We wanted to provide answers to some top concerns and questions:
Why are Gallery Plus fees being charged for items that were previously free?
We determined that a technical issue impacted a small number of listings, which resulted in incorrect charges (including Gallery Plus, subtitles, and insertion fees) for some sellers. The issue has been fixed and we will be crediting impacted sellers as quickly as possible. No calls to Customer Service are necessary as credits will be issued automatically.
The eBay Standard Envelope shipping option is grayed out and I can’t select it. When will the issue be resolved?
The eBay Standard Envelope shipping option issue resulted from the category changes update and has been resolved. eBay Standard Envelope is now available in applicable categories if your item meets the established criteria.
Should I edit my listings if they’re in the wrong category, have been moved to another category, or have wrong or missing item specifics?
No. Recent category changes require updates to many thousands of servers and data changes to nearly every aspect of our platform. This level of adjustment takes time, which is why we asked for your patience while the process runs. We expect most data updates to be completed within 48 hours, but can they take up to a week (i.e., through Oct. 19). After that, if you have an item specific in mind that you think would work well for your listing, please consider adding it as a custom item specific.
Why isn’t my item coming up in search?
The category change update is still in process. We anticipate search issues will resolve when we complete most data updates during the next 24-48 hours.
There are more item specifics now than ever before. Do I need to fill in all of them?
No. Item specifics that you have already filled in will be maintained as the category moves are completed during the next week. In addition, new soon-to-be-required item specifics are being added and will become required by Feb 22, 2022. As always, the more item specifics you fill out, the better visibility your listing has to buyers.
For Parts & Accessories, when will fitment/compatibility charts start working again?
There was an issue with parts compatibility not working properly as the category changes rolled out that has been resolved. You should now be able to see the options to add fitment compatibility when editing your listings.
-----------------------------------------------------------
We’re updating some of our categories and item specifics to make your listings easier to find.
Starting October 12th, you’ll see updates to the following categories. Learn more about category changes →

As these updates go into effect, you may see temporary impacts to your listing experience or to the visibility of listings in the affected categories.
This is a result of listings transitioning to the updated item specifics and category structures. Your affected listings should return to normal within 48 hours, though you may see irregularities on some listings for up to a week. We recommend checking your item specifics and categories in affected listings after these updates are complete.
These updates also include new item specifics in the above categories, which will be required February 22, 2022. Starting today, these item specifics will be available as you list, with the “Required Soon” tag. Learn more →

If you ask me...all of us that have items in these categories....this is a way for ebay to weed those sellers out with these changes. They are all about being the NEW Amazon and Walmart...so says the new CEO.

As of this morning, eBay is mapping their new eBay motors category structure on revised and new listings.
Two major problems with this:
- The new categories are NOT active on the site - buyers can't browse to them!
(reference: 33652 , Car & Truck Sunroofs, Hard Tops & Soft Tops, has been mapped to a new category 262173, Roofs, Tops & Sunroofs -- but this category is not visible to buyers despite being the only place to list items under it as the 33652 ALSO no longer works)
- Another example is 6763, Other Parts, has been mapped to 9886. Not visible
- The return policy feature is NOT turned on for most or all of the new categories, so listing under one of them does not include the seller's return policy.
Why is the production environment the same as beta here at eBay?

Not one of these categories, but none of the links in Model Railroads and Trains are working. As a shopper I cannot see the items in that category. All that I see are, Your Recently Viewed Items, Your Watched Items, and other pointless views, but not the items in that category. I would like the category tree structure links at the top that are currently not working, reactivated to make shopping easier. I don't want ebay to show me recommended and sponsored items. I know how to shop.

I've just now begun searching all of my listings to see how these "changes" have affected me. Guess ebay has never heard of the old adage, "If it ain't broke, why fix it?" To begin with all of my Georgia (U.S.) postcards now show them being manufactured in the country of Georgia (a former Soviet state) so if someone has their searched saved for U.S. Georgia collectibles "made in the U.S.A." my postcards will NOT show up. Further when I went in to revise the listings, ebay would not let me revise the "Country of Manufacture!" What the heck???? And I've just begun checking my listings. These is a serious matter that greatly affects both buyers and sellers.

WORST changes ebay has ever, EVER made. If ebay doesn't go back to the old categories, it may just finish me off as both a buyer and a seller. It's like a person looking for a needle in a haystack, and ebay just dropped 10 more haystacks on top of them

I just ended an item, a small pottery creamer. it is sitting in my unsold listings and now I have a $1.00 GALLERY FEE CHARGE ON MY ACCOUNT? How is this even possible. My listing is showing it was listed in POTTERY and GLASS--COOKWARE, DINNERWARE, SERVERWARE-PLATES! Never in a million years would I list a pottery creamer in PLATES! I have never seen this category before and now I am being charged a GALLERY FEE for ENDING this listing that I never listed in this category to begin with. The listing was running for over 30 days and there was no charge when I originally listed it? what is going on?

eBay are you listening? YOU started as a site for antique and vintage COLLECTIBLES and every change you make is harder on us that sell these things. NO combined shipping options that work for us. (we have items at 3 ounces and also 30 pounds). required item specifics with many collectibles ARE NOT NEEDED with many of the items we sell .... in fact, they don't match up in any way. STOP IT before you lose your base. why listen to 24 year old tech geeks that have NO CLUE about real world business and the buying and selling of collectibles like toys, games, kitchenware, vinly and much more. JUST STOP IT.

The follow is not pretty. Here's what I did to talk to a live person:
Click on Seller help -> Need more help? -> Fees & Invoices.
Scroll to bottom of page and click on Contact us -> Fees & Billing -> Fee credits -> Contact us "Chat with our automated assistant or connect wit an agent"
I think you have to scroll down to see this, but click on "Have us call you." Enter your phone number. And maybe you have to click on another button. Then wait for eBay to call you. So it's 8 or 9 clicks, scrolling, and typing your phone number.
eBay, you can do better.

i am reading a few others having this same issue - they called to have this fee removed - it's a total disaster right now - no views or very low views - item specifics a disaster

I tired listing a model this morning - never had an issue - constantly tried to save and kept telling me it was the incorrect category?!!!

well at least you reply are to the correct topic: had one go to some one else's. the bugs are getting strange...

So it seems now that all of my postcard listing are only in two categories. Topographical and Non Topographical where before you could have postcards in categories by state or country if you wanted. Not really understanding this change and of course there will be no answers or clarification from anyone.
