Unusual Activity

I have noticed a strange pattern on one particular item I have listed.   It is a Cadillac Wreath Emblem logo.

I got a message thru eBay, a buyer asking if I had more than one of "this item", the one I noted above.  I said I did, and sent him links to seven of the listings ... different sizes, colors, etc.  Didn't hear anything else from him ... I think.

I got an offer a week ago.  Listing is about $20 total.  Buyer makes an offer of $7.  I replied that I could not discount 65% and countered with a 15% discount.  He countered again ... at $8.  I declined and blocked him.  I didn't do any 'research' of him, didn't want to spend the time.  As is SOP for me, when I get an offer I do a quick appraisal to see if maybe the buyer is right ... in this case, he was not.  We were priced a buck or two from the bottom on all of them with a good spread.

Three days later I get an offer on it, same item, from a different 'buyer' for $5.  I just declined it.  Again, I didn't look at his account.

Tonight I get a $7 offer, and ... finally, get a tingle.  Something is starting to smell.  Ok, stick with me now ...

I look at the first message.  It goes back to an account that's about a year old, in So Cal.  Has nothing but sellers auto feedbacks, all glowing.

The second one, and the third one are accounts that were created within the last week, but none today or yesterday.  Brand new accounts with no activity at all, of any kind.

I don't know what his motive is, but I feel hunted.

So, this is what I did:

I blocked all three ID's.

I 'ended' ALL of the Cadillac Wreath Emblems.

Plan:

Watch to see what next move he make make, if any.

Restart the Caddy Emblems in ten days, or maybe just put the one he was chasing up ...

It doesn't make sense that it could be a scam ... I don't think anyway.

I don't see a motive at all.

Any suggestions?  Theories?

Probably just a low baller , if they were going to scam they'd just buy at the regular price.

Whenever I have a lunatic bothering me about an item I pop it back to drafts for a few weeks. By the time it comes back out again they will have moved on to something else.

I don't see a motive at all.

I see a motive - he doesn't want to pay your asking price.

Any suggestions?

IMHO using "Best Offer" on a listing is like hanging out a sign that says "I don't expect to get my asking price".  Low offers come with the territory.
