Unsolicited threatening message

I received a message from someone claiming that I had sold them an item which I have never owned or listed on eBay. I replied to let them know they had the wrong person. They responded with a claim that I had sold them the item under a different account with a similar name, and  a threat to "let the eBay community know how you operate".

As far as I can tell, there is no way to report this activity since it isn't associated with a listing.

Should I just ignore it, or is there some other action I can take?

Thanks.

Re: Unsolicited threatening message

Since they haven't purchased from your store, just ignore the random message. If it continues, then reach out to ebay customer service,

It's a phishing attempt, hopefully the link you clicked didn't require a sign-in because the link was possibly to a fake sign-in page. If a sign-in was required I suggest you change your eBay password immediately.

You should forward the message to spoof@ebay.com

Re: Unsolicited threatening message

Yes, as above, the question is, how did you reply? Was it entirely through the ebay system? Was it through email? Did you have to enter your password to reply?

Probably a good idea to change your password quickly like slippinjimmy suggests.

Sometimes I wonder if these posters ever come back to read the advice they get...  🤔

Re: Unsolicited threatening message

Thanks for the response. I read and replied entirely through eBay. I did not reply directly to the email and there were no links in the message.

I would just ignore them, as they are clearly mistaken and block them from further annoying you:
