Got a package today - clearly a return, but from someone I never sold to, with my eBay username and address on the label, plus the words Overstock Return, then Overstock paperwork inside. Return address is not anywhere that I shipped to this whole year. Googled for a phone number, no luck, nothing about this person comes up at all. It was an item that I sell. I'm guessing someone bought it from me and gave it to this person as a gift.
Guess I'll wait until someone contacts me.

You don't have an open return for that specific item, right?
Unless you can easily narrow it down to a couple of buyers- maybe you sold only 2-3 of that item- then I agree- I wouldn't do anything at this point. Wait to see if the buyer contacts you. If you sold 10 of them there's no reason to bother 10 buyers with messages.
Out of curiosity, what item was shown on the Overstock paperwork? They may have put your return paperwork in the Overstock package and will be confused when they don't get a refund from them, either.

It was just a generic Ovestock form, no item listed. And it is an item I sold about 8 of just in december, probably 10 or 12 in November. I think waiting is all I can do right now. I'm not going to send messages to all the buyers. At this point they need to track me down, not the other way around.

Maybe it's something you ordered from Overstock.com?
Try entering the tracking number in the system, at least that would give you the city of origin?
