Understanding Fees

New to ebay so forgive me for asking what has probably been answered a thousand times. I sold a camera for 100.00. Same day sold a cymbal for 60.00. On the camera it says they took 13.62 for their fees which leaves me a net of 86.38. Then on the cymbal somehow the price went from 60.00 to 69.05 and it says they took 9.42 for their fees which leaves a net of 59.63. If you add those net prices together you get 146.01. Now when i check what they say they are depositing it dont add up. They say they are depositing 126.32. If they took their fees why does it seem like they took more off the total amount as well??

@kvanhoy

The Final Value selling Fees are based on the (total the buyer pays)

and what category the item was listed in.

Some buyers have to pay Sales Tax and some do not so there are

variables involved.  (somehow the price went from 60.00 to 69.05)

Re: Understanding Fees

What im really confused with is it says net payout is such and such. Then when you see what they are putting in your acct it dont add up. Net is net. Not here is net then you get a different amount deposited. What am i missing?? I mean 86 and 59 dont equal 124

eBay's fees are based on the total payment eBay collects from the buyer, which includes (a) the item price, (b) the shipping you charged to the buyer, and (c) the sales tax charged by the buyer's state.

Before the buyer's payment is credited to your managed payments balance, eBay deducts (a) the sales tax charged by the buyer's state, and (b) the fees that you owe eBay.

Before eBay deposits your managed payments balance into your bank account, eBay will deduct any  other charges you have incurred that you owe to eBay. This means that there may have been deductions from your payout for things like shipping labels, store fees, refunds, insertion fees, listing upgrades, etc.

So in order for us to confirm that eBay's fee calculation and payout amount were correct, you will need to give us all of that information. But as soon as you gather that information, I think you will discover that eBay's fee calculation and payout amount were correct.

Re: Understanding Fees

I understand all that. I get that there are fees. But when i go to the payout page and it says you sold an item for 100.00 and we took 13.00 and your payout is 50.00. That is where im lost. 13 from 100 is 87.00 not 50.00

Re: Understanding Fees

These are the charges:

Item selling price + shipping+ insurance/sign receipt (if applicable) + sales tax of buyer state = Total buyer cost or TBC for short

You as seller will get following:

TBC - eBay commission( 12.55% is the lowest, depends for category) - Shipping cost/insurance/signature receipt = total eBay deposit to your account

Did you use the option to pay for postage out of the buyer's payment? If so, that reduces your payout by the amount paid for postage.

Re: Understanding Fees

Is postage and shipping something different? When i pay for a label is that not shipping cost or is that out of my pocket?

@kvanhoy

Shipping can be purchased two ways. A seller can choose to pay for shipping labels (on the fly) from their 'Pending' Payouts or can choose to pay using a method (out-of-pocket) from their PayPal account.

Re: Understanding Fees

Postage/shipping are the same. I forgot to add that eBay also takes .30 for listing

Re: Understanding Fees

Not all states have a sales tax. The Camera may have gone to one that didn't, the cymbal may have gone to stated that did, re the higher amount you are seeing. I don't see a sold camera on this account, just the cymbal.

Re: Understanding Fees

I appreciate all the help. In closing should I be adding 12.55 to all my sales. Cause that is what ebay is charging me correct? Not to happy with selling 160.00 worth of stuff and only getting 124.00. Learning the hard way i guess.

Re: Understanding Fees

Hi @kvanhoy

How did you pay for your shipping label?

If you paid with your pending funds … then the amount would be reduced when it was deposited  your account.

Both fees and postage are taken from buyer’s payment before being sent to you.
