Unauthorized Payment Claim opened for item sold 11 months ago

Earlier this month I got an email from PayPal saying a claim was opened. I checked my account and found it to be an unauthorized payment that was opened through the buyer's financial institution. The item was sold in March 2017.

I contacted PayPal and EBay. PayPal said they'll be working on resolving it and it should take up to 80 days. EBay said I am protected by the seller protection policy and should also be protected by PayPal's 180 day policy.

How long should this take and what are the chances of it being dismissed? Could this be fraud?

Hi, sorry to hear about the chargeback. I have not had one so i am not sure how long the process takes, but i can tell you that the customer service rep saying you are protected is misleading. The only protection a seller has is for an item not received case if the seller has tracking that shows delivery confirmation. Is the buyer claiming she never received the item? If so, and you have delivery confirmation, there is a chance you might win. However, credit card companies are more likely to find for the customer. If they do, neither eBay nor PayPal can help you. This claim falls outside of eBay's and PayPal's program timelines so the only recourse this buyer had was through her credit card company. Chargebacks can be done up to a year after the purchase. I hope it goes well for you. Other more experienced posters will be along to offer more insight into your problem. Good luck.

You're not going to win this as your only seller protection is tracking showing you shipped to the PP address given and that tracking is no longer visible on line after 11 months. On top of this you'll be slapped with a $20 fee for losing.

Look, for Unauthorized --

@bluefishbusteronly needs Proof of Shipment.

And it can be physical documentation, like a scrap of paper.

Ebay is totally out of the loop, so the seller is not protected there.

And for a UA chargeback thru PP, as long as you have proof of shipping to the buyers address, you will win. The problem is that you need the receipt for the shipping label - since the USPS doesn't keep it's tracking online for that long of a period in most cases - or better, an internal doc from USPS to send in.

A UA chargeback doesn't need proof of delivery - just proof of shipment.

PP someday is going to be taken to task regarding not storing all shipping/delivery information for a transaction for a chargeback or even a PP claim for at least the 180 days.

There is proof of shipping with the original tracking number

Sounds like someone doing their taxes -- who cannot figure out what they bought.

Or, more likely, someone stole their credit card and the bank slapped a blanket inquiry on all transactions until they learn which are real and which aren't.  Keep your receipts!

If you can locate the receipt for shipping (paper or electronic), that should satisfy paypal's Seller Protection.  Otherwise, call the buyer, remind him of what he purchased, and ask him to contact his bank to cancel that chargeback.

I am sure the vast majority of these are simply cardholders that do not recognize a transaction.

In the age of online transactions and even bigger, online fraud and the credit card companie's no time limit chargebacks. How hard would it be for USPS to retrofit their systems with, say, a 5 year record of all tracking numbers.

As far as I'm concerned, if the company I pay to ship labels can't or refuses to provide me records of my shipment transactions then they can see me in court along with the other class members.

This issue comes up time and time again. I wish these people would get out of their own price-increase-epacket pockets for 5 minutes and do something positive for their USA customers for once.
