USPS new rule, only have to scan part of pick up

Mail lady just stop by, they had a meeting(rural couriers) and were told their only require to scan a few packages when they do a pick up. She was told she only had to scan 5 packages when she picks up, even if you have 20, and let the sorting center to scan the rest. You have to tell the courier, to their face to scan them all. You also can print off a bulk shipping when you put in the pick up(online), they'll scan the sheet but won't include anything you sold over night and pack the next morning.

Really bad because our sorting center in St. Louis only scans half the packages as it is. I have a feeling I'll be getting alot of "where's my package" emails, well more then I'm getting now.  I'm am lucky because I have a great mail lady, but her subs, won't be scanning them all.

I read they have started to pop up here and there, its 15 miles to my PO, not real far but I shouldn't have to drive to PO every day when they pick up here. My mail lady is great, even helped my when my dog got really sick, brought me her meds after work and text often. Only thing she grumbles about is when I have a couple 6' fishing rods to pick up but also I'll take them up for her if its alot.

I wouldn't expect much from the moderators, I also posted about the outrageous $15 surcharge on packages over 30" 2 months ago, not heard any warnings from ebay.  Only have a little over a month to go, come April 3rd, boom half my inventory is done.

"printing ink runs about $40 a cartridge"

Just a suggestion to anyone still using an inkjet printer... for less than the cost of a couple cartridges, you can pick up a refurbished laser printer here, and print literally thousands of pages at a fraction of the cost of inkjet...

The new $15 surcharge is going to be a killer for a lot of shipments and it really does not make a lot of sense since most of those packages are small in their other dimensions i.e. 4" x 4" x 60" and are generally light. I have already looked to see what I may have posted that I may have to look at different shipping alternatives for. UPS will probably pickup a lot of my shipping for these type of packages.

Given eBay's propensity for "glitches" it will be interesting to see if they have the software updated to incorporate the surcharge into the shipping cost presented to the buyers who are viewing the items based on the dimensions the seller put in the listing. If you are a seller who offers free shipping there may be a need to adjust listing prices to incorporate the additional cost or to change shipping methods on the listing.

I'm going to end all large package listings and then list a couple to see, I told the moderators 2 months ago yet have heard nothing back. I've been checking UPS rates on the fishing rods sold and their running $23-$28 to ship, I'm paying $9-$14 now. What sucks is there's a huge swap meet at 6 flags this Saturday and have to just walk by fishing rods plus I have to talk to the people I buy from that I'm not buying them anymore.

Now we know why they changed it to 5 packages, to rip off the carriers route count

The Scan sheet is generated by the post office isn't it? It accompanies the request for carrier pickup. It does make sense to do it this way. One barcode to achieve an acceptance scan for every package.

Now what's "interesting" is, ever notice when you request a carrier pickup they want to know everything about those packages except the tracking #s. Why do you suppose that is? You get one guess.

Nope.  We sellers have to print the scan sheet, not the post office & leave it on the packages.

@valueaddedresource  thanks, will read it later tonight.   My carrier's off til Friday, so that's the earliest I'll be able to talk to him.

@tsme35  What are you expecting from the mods in re; to a postage increase?   I asked them to get involved in my thread b/c they have a direct relationship with 'corporate' in regards to communication issues, such as the scan situation.   IDK that they can or do get involved in price hikes, that's a congressional thing.   I realize it can't hurt, but I don't think they'll be able to do anything about a price hike, regardless of how substantial it may be.

Scan sheet can be impossible for some sellers. When I worked at the hobby shop our outgoing included shipping labels generated via at least 5 different methods every single day.  Ebay account #1. Ebay account #2. Tcgplayer account. Our direct website. and Pirate Ship. That would be 5 scan forms and no way to combine them.

I know ebay won't do anything about the surcharge, nice little fee hike for them, but at least put a warning out, only a month to go. But it will be a HUGE increase and loss in sales, I wrote hundreds of emails to the folks on the congress board, if any reply it was "oh we'll bring it up at the next meeting". Senator Blunt from MO(my state) of all places didn't even know and he voted yes for it.

Talked with my carrier not that long ago. (well, maybe 3-4 months).  She said they have not done, and will not do a "mail count" "route eval' on her route. Been about 2 years since it was done.  She is not a happy camper, but does a great job of scanning what I ship.  My carriers get a December carrier "perk", and a small summer bonus in the mailbox for their great work.

Gotcha, I'm sure they will put it out in the Announcements, where they announce all postal increases (& UPS & Fedex)

Not at all. In my experience good letter carriers LOVE dogs.

(Btw, "Primitive" cultures across the globe in ancient history almost universally held that those who mistreated dogs were sent to Hell. One of the conditions necessary in most to enter Heaven was a thorough review of how they treated their dogs.)
