I've had that happen to me before.

Even though the customer was already refunded, he was willing to pay for the the order.

He was able to pay me through paypal.

@mdaug There is no way to rescind a credit. However, you can message your buyer and kindly ask that they pay you via an invoice you can send them through PayPal. Now that you have completed your transaction, you are allowed to ask for their email address so you can send them an invoice. That's the best you can do. These things happen sometimes but very rarely. Just remember the buyer is not obligated to pay a second time so stay friendly and on good terms. Best of luck to you....

You have two choices, if the buyer still want's the item you can make arrangement with them to pay for it. If they don't want it ask them to ship it back to you and send them a return label.

I would offer a heavy discount due to the inconvenience that the item showed up so late if you are really looking to get some sort of compensation.

Based on eBay policies, the buyer is not obligated to return or pay you. The item did not arrive within the time that was expected, and credit was given to them.

I personally would probably just write it off on my taxes.

You can't. It is up to the the buyer. Most buyers unfortunately will not do the right thing.

I've had this happen so many times I can't count them anymore.  Especially during the Pandemic years.

What I always do is contact my buyer through the Ebay email.  I write something like this.

I have been notified by the carrier that they finally deliver XXXXX to you today.  I thought I'd check in with you and see how you'd like to handle this.

If you'd like to return the item, let me know and I'll provide you with a label to return the item.  If you still want to keep the item, that is terrific too.  Just give me your email address and I will bill you through PayPal for the exact same amount as you originally paid.

Just let me know what works best for you.

People like options and it will help to make them feel good about the situation.  If they don't respond in 48 hours, try again.  If they don't respond after that, it is just a loss.  Nothing you can do. directly with the buyer.

However you can contact Ebay and see if they will refund you, sometimes they will if the buyer is not willing to make good on it.

I would suggest that you contact Ebay for Business on Facebook or Twitter for the better trained CSRs.

Here are your options for contacting Ebay Customer Service.

If when you use the link below you can only get to the Automated Assistant, type AGENT in the box and hit enter. You will then get more options.

This has happened to me twice. Both times thanks to the Memphis terminal of USPS. Both times after three weeks of being late, I refunded thinking it was lost. Both offered to pay thru pay pal, but I don't have a pay pal account so I just let it go. Luckily I lost a total of less than $25.00 for both.

I wonder, since the buyer has a copy of the packing slip which has the shippers address and name, could they just send a check thru the mail?

Did you contact Ebay?  Have you considered getting a PayPal account?  They don't cost anything.

For those that might be interested, this is my procedure when I get a buyer complaining an item hasn't arrived or they actually file an INR.

First of course I apologize to the buyer for the delay.  I assure them that I'll be looking into the matter and to give me a few days.  I will keep them informed with anything I discover.

The next thing is I go to USPS and call up the tracking number.  I sign up to get an email any time the tracking gets updated.

Then I go and file a trace on the package.

Most times this is enough to shake loose the package within a couple of days.  But sometimes it just isn't.  And I end up refunding the buyer, to later have it arrive.

Most buyers will pay but there are those that suddenly become unreachable.  If that happens I suggest contacting Ebay as sometimes they will make you whole.  Not always, but it is with trying.

All good advice, but in the future when you suspect a package is lost, file a claim with USPS.  This will either shake is lose or after 21 days will pay the claim, whether it gets delivered later or not.

No, I have no interest in getting a pay pal account. Thanks though. I have decided what don't sell by the end of the year, I will just give up and consider people either don't want what I have to sell or they want it for pennies on the dollar. I am already loosing over 60% of what I paid for them.

Besides that it wasn't e-bay's fault.

Ok

BTW I didn't say anything was Ebay's fault regarding this.

Just ask the buyer to provide their PayPal email address & you can then invoice them for the item that thnakfully finally reached them.  Once they pay again, ship away & send the buyer a big thank you message in the ebay messaging system!!!
