So I sold a 700 jacket and shipped with usps priority mail with insurance up to $50. I used usps for years and nothing like this has ever happened but it happens to literally the most expensive thing Ive sold on ebay. So first usps does not update the location of the package for 3 weeks so I contact usps and its deemed lost, and then I issue the buyer a full refund. Then magically a week later the package shows delivered. The buyer was happy to return the item but claimed it never arrived. I was skeptical at first but he went to the post office and they told him they delivered to the wrong house a few blocks down. I called the post office and they confirmed the information the buyer gave. Now Ive called them countless times and they say they will restrieve the package but no one answers the door. I filed an insurace claim and they gave me a measley $55. Anyone have any suggestions? I filed an appeal to the claim and also contact the Postal Inspector to report the item stolen at this point. First they lose the item and then deliver to the wrong house, thats just bad luck.

Good Luck Selling!

I believe anything sold over $250 needs a signature confirmation as well. To protect myself and my customers I always insure for the total amount and use signature confirmation on more expensive items. USPS is a great service, but they are human and mistakes happen.

I believe the item is no longer yours since you accepted payment on the claim.

eBay and PayPal require Signature Confirmation on $750.
And, yes, insurance should be added (if you insure, some don't and just use piggy bank) for the amount of the item.
USPS admitted it was lost and or misdelivered when they paid your insurance claim. They paid the insured value ($50) plus ?shipping cost?, for a total of $55. If you had added extra insurance, they would have paid you the $700. But you didn't 😞
You accepted the claim amount. The Item is no longer yours. Techically, it belongs to the Post Office now.
If you haven't already ... you should refund your buyer.

I never accepted anything. I filed a claim for 700 and got a check for 55 dollars in the mail a week later. I haven’t cashed it in either. Yes it is my fault for not having extra insurance or sig confirmation but I ship like a lot of stuff and how was I supposed to know that I should have paid extra for shipping for this one item when usps has never failed me before. I kind of just expect usps to deliver my item correctly.

You have never seen the box to add insurance?
You insure your house for the value of the house. You insure your car for the value of the car. If you need to make a claim for "total loss", your insurance indemnity payment will never be for more than the insured value. Geico is not going to give you a check for $50,000 if your car is only insured for $5000.
You only Paid for $50 of insurance (what's included in PM) ... you declared the value of the item to be $50 when you bought the label. You can't claim that the item is worth $700 after the fact.
I'm sorry that this happened to you...I really am. Take this as a lesson learned.
