I thought I read something here recently about TRS getting $100 worth of insurance. Is that true & if so, does it apply to FC pkgs? I haven't filed for insurance for probably 12 years or so, but I have my 2nd ever (in 25 years) truly lost pkg. I have already refunded the buyer & done everything else including talking with their PO multiple times. I thought I was SOL b/c it's a FC pkg, but thought it couldn't hurt to ask here.

Actually, USPS changed it over the summer so everybody gets $100 included insurance on Priority. You don't have to be TRS.
Sorry @simply-the-best-for-you, but you're out of luck on this one. Write it off on the taxes and if it was an amount that hurts, bump up the prices of a few listings that have enough space in the price to tolerate it.

You get nothing with First Class Mail unless you purchased insurance.
TRS offers nothing, Etsy does though.

@simply-the-best-for-you TRS use to get the $100 insurance on PRIORITY packages, but USPS changed it to $100 for all and ebay never updated the TRS policy nor addressed the requests for TRS to be upped. Basically TRS gives you zero benefits now.

Pretty much every third party postage provider has offered $100 on Priority for years. So eBay offering it to TRS didn't mean much because non-TRS could still access it if they purchased their labels elsewhere. eBay's not going to up the amount for TRS because $100 is what USPS offers in all their contracts and they're the ones that (are supposed to) pay out on claims. USPS probably upped the amount because they haven't paid out on claims in 3 years so what difference does it make to them to offer more?

USPS has paid out on claims, they paid me on package they lost last xmas, but they have made claims harder that is true.

Fair enough - they do still pay out for lost claims. But rarely, if ever, damage claims.
Even with a buyer turning over your double-boxed with tons of bubble packaging to their PO with broken item and tire tracks on the box, USPS will claim insufficient packaging.

Thank you everyone! This was a pkg that was misdelivered & has never turned up. But it was First Class, so I'm outta luck, which is what I thought. Just a typical sale, so not out a huge amount of money. I'll mention it to DH who does taxes, but prolly not worth it to bother. I appreciate all the input.

It's an easy write-off. I've lost I think two packages in all the years I've been selling so it startles me when it happens.

If you ship via USPS Priority Mail & UPS shipping you have $100 insurance coverage for loss and damage.

Priority Mail Express® and Priority Mail® include up to $100 of insurance in the price of service. For more valuable shipments, additional coverage is usually available.

As far as I can tell USPS insurance has 2 departments, one that collects the insurance premiums and one that pays out claims. Unfortunately the claim paying department has shut down operations completely however the premium collecting department is still working as normal.

I have asked this question several times,
Has anyone had a successful USPS insurance claim in say the last 2 years?
