I've received packages this week as late as 9 p.m., watch your tracking, don't let it sit on the porch overnight.

What i mean is that the USPS often gives lousy service because they are not a "for profit" entity and the people who work there often don't care, and are not at risk of losing job. You lose your job at UPS or FedEx if you don't perform as expected.
Balderdash and stop watching the vulpine proganda network. USPS rarely loses an item whether it is an Ebay item I sell or the many decades of business letters I either sent or recieved. I have yet to meet a lazy USPS worker. I have never had a USPS worker steal from me but I have had a UPS drivers steal from me, but most of my UPS drivers have been good people as well.

Our postal person has been out for over a month. Instead of training someone else for her route, it is split up among existing employees who do it at the end of their routes.
Mail is being delivered at 6:30 PM in the dark by postal workers who do not know the route. Packages are being put in the wrong boxes because they probably cannot see the names and others are not finishing the routes when it becomes too late to do so.
There has been so much cost-cutting over the last few years that I'm sure there has been a lot of retirement attrition as well. And all the distribution centers that have been closed; that's not helping at this time of year, either.

According to the USPS site I was suposed to have delivery today yet it keeps showing in transit to destination.
Around here you have to go to your mail box with a flash light it has been coming so late lately.

I'm amazed at the changes with USPS in the last five years, really turned a corner with better service, working longer hours. They still make mistakes and I lost a $100 item this time last year, no initial scan as I put it on the counter, no scans ever, poof..just gone.

Considering what the USPS system is -- you drop a letter in a box and it goes cross-country in about three days -- I think that its success rate is pretty remarkable, especially considering the volume processed.
Like everything else it is great if you are not affected by it.
IM, no excuse for mail to come at 6:30 at night because you have not had a regular postman in a year.
No excuse for mail to be constantly in the wrong boxes.
And I have a Christmas gift that I am held hostage to because I have to be home to sign for it.
