UPI

I had to open an UPI against a buyer after 7 days of sending first an invoice, then a reminder and several messages.  After 4 days she finally messaged me saying she would pay the next day.  Nothing.  I then opened a case and still nothing.

I guess my question is if the case is still open can she still bid and buy from other sellers.

Invoice - OK

Reminder - not necessary - eBay already does that on its own when a buyer hasn't paid

Several messages - never do that. It doesn't help and just comes off as high anxiety and powerless

Instead - just wait whatever number of days you feel comfortable with waiting for a payment - personally I wait 3 or 4 days.   And then open an unpaid item case.

4 days later if it's still unpaid, I close the case as unpaid and put the buyer on my  Blocked Bidder List

no fuss, no muss, just chug through it like a mechanical process.

Yes, she can still bid on/buy other listings, even if she never pays for your item and gets an unpaid item strike.

For future - to protect yourself from buyers like that if they do it chronically, go to your Seller Accounts/Site Preferences/Buyer Requirements and set your limits to block bidders who've had more than 2 unpaid item strikes in the last 12 months.  Saves you a lot of annoyance.

But also for future - don't waste time and energy on messages.  Just use the unpaid item facility eBay offers.   And if you like you can also, while in Site Preferences, set it up to have eBay automatically open unpaid item cases after X (you decide) days and close them 4 days later if still unpaid. Then you don't even have to think about it.

Yes, her not paying you does not preclude her from buying from someone else.

An open case has no effect on anything.  She can still bid on and buy from ALL sellers including you.

Thank you.  Seems like I won't have to stress myself out.  Value the information

I'm just throwing this out there since I've read often it is okay to send an invoice.  I thought we were advised to not do that since it locks in shipping to the address indicated on the sold item.  Then if a buyer changes that address, to possibly send as a gift to someone else, the postage cost won't update correctly to the new address.

Is this the way it works or am I remembering this incorrectly?

Gosh. I have no idea but that's possible!  If so, that would not be a good thing!
