Typing field format on Partial Refunds

elizabeth@ebay , devon@ebay

Below is a pic showing what I type in the field when issuing a partial refund and then what actually gets posted for the customer to read.  I don't like the fact that I create a nice note with proper spacing only to see that get put in a long run-on type paragraph ... it makes it look like I don't know how to type ... is this something can be fixed????  This has been going on for a very long time ...

The software appears to be stripping out the Carriage Return/Line Feed sequence (<CR>/<LF>) that you are typing as normal paragraph separations (i.e. what goes in when you press your Enter key).

You might be able to work around that using so-called Soft Returns, which you type as Shift+Enter (hold down the Shift key while you type the Enter key). This forces a linebreak without starting a new paragraph, and might be something that will slide through the Refund page coding.

Thus you would type:

"...end of my message here.(Shift+Enter)(Shift+Enter)Regards,(Shift+Enter)(Shift+Enter)Mr. L."

...which you should see on-screen as

"...end of my message here.

Regards,

Mr. L."

I should mention here that I typed the output sample above using Shift+Enter myself, and it looks correct in my edit window here. Now to click Reply and see what happens. If you hear a loud *bang* and see a cloud of smoke, ignore the advice above.

@a_c_green  Sorry I just now saw this reply from you from last September ... please @ mention me if its convenient so I don't miss replies ... I will try and remember to try that the next time I send a partial refund ... I was just checking this thread and will see if they fixed the issue on their end ... if not I will post again here.

Re: Typing field format on Partial Refunds

devon@ebay   I see that after 4 months this issue has not been fixed nor have there been any ongoing updates ... formatting is still an issue and while @a_c_green suggested a solution I might try I realized I shouldn't have to do anything other than type things the way I want them to appear ...

Did they ever respond at all to you the first time this was sent to them?

Re: Typing field format on Partial Refunds

It's the same formatting you get when you put a note to buyer when sending an invoice, it's also similar if not the exact same when you type a message for buyer into a dispute/request/case.

As far as I know it's always been that way for as long as those fields have been available to fill in.

@slippinjimmy   Thanks ... that means they have more to fix ... or simply ignore the request like it appears they have done.

My smart phone even has a Return button that works when I text ... not sure why the formatting on eBay was never set up properly.
