I noticed two separate posts today from folks upset because of something they saw in another persons listing. Don't want to hijack their threads so thought I'd start my own. One was about price gouging, which wasn't price gouging at all but just people who resell items for a higher price- aka business. Another was because someone felt that people were selling items they'd created in their own homes without licensing agreements on copyrighted material.
What someone else is doing in their listings displeases them, so they now feel entitled to "tell on them". Neither of those two posters had any rebuttals either.
One tried to claim it was the equivalent to seeing a child being abused and failing to report it. Yes, that is correct, that OP felt that when he sees someone selling a homemade replica Star Wars item and he cannot report them, that it is the equivalent of seeing physical harm being done to a living creature.
Reminds me of someone I used to know named Charlie. Many years ago Charlie called me extremely upset because a woman was parking her car so closely to the car next to her, it made opening the drivers door difficult. Naturally I presumed he was the driver of the other car, so I suggested he write a nicely worded note and place it on her windshield. That's when he told me it wasn't his car she was parking next to.
After a long pause, I asked him why this was upsetting him if he wasn't the owner of the other car. He said it was because the woman had no right to do that....she was in the wrong. After another longer pause, I replied that perhaps the woman had spoken to the actual driver of the other car in advance. Perhaps the woman was disabled, or a larger person, who needed extra room to open her door wider, so she got permission to park closer to the car on her right. Perhaps the other driver was making an exception for this woman. I pointed out that since he hadn't spoken to either of these people, he had no way of knowing the full story, so there was no reason for him to get so worked up. Charlie hung up on me....

I can even think of a specific content creator who has encouraged people to make stuff like replicas for fun or for cosplay purposes but also has explicitly forbidden people from selling anything they make.
And then there is Eric Flint whose novel 1632 has turned into a dozen novels plus anthologies and a website about alternate history and how to kickstart an industrial revolution. Most of the works are done by fans of the original, but Flint keeps control of his concept.
And of course, Archive Of Our Own, which has millions of fanfics, but does monitor for works based on certain authors, who have expressed their preference not to have their concepts and characters used.

No. Although there may be a resemblance (and we have both lived in Victoria BC.)
The actress is Violet Carson who played Ena Sharples in the long-running British soap Coronation Street. It was first broadcast in 1960 and is still on the air.

She turns up at the 15 minute mark.

I won't go into "sign of the times" element here, but in ebay terms, sales go down, people become frustrated which turns into anger, which turns into jealously, and people need a scape goat to blame.

I thought it was - I used to watch Coronation Street with my mum Years ago, and recognised it right away, but then second guessed myself until I realised you were Canadian and more likely to know that show than the US posters.
I am originally from NZ - so Way Down Under then moved to Down Under LOL

"
One way of publicizing this has been the printing of orange tee shirts with artwork and slogans by indigenous artists.
And... there are already sellers on AZ and etsy who have stolen those (copyright) designs."
If you want some great examples of copyright theft check out the needlepoint canvases coming out of China.

Yes, they sure do.

So I was out to lunch on that. 😄 I will watch that clip to educate myself! I've heard of Coronation Street, as who has not, but never watched.
There really is a strong resemblence, though, I think. I do love Carr's work (and that of Tom Thomson, and the Group of seven, all ten of them) so I perhaps that inclined me to see her face.

Oh I totally agree, but that also applies to anything on social media. I'm not surprised by the posts I was referencing, there will always be someone posting the same type. I was drawn to post my initial thread because I happened upon two, later three, of the same types of posts on the same day, from three different people. It was like something was in the water that day....

Unfortunately, it wasn't just that day.........this board has been on full-tilt......goodness.

I know why I have time to be on the boards ....I'm eating dinner and the tv service keeps turning off my favorite channels. But I wonder where all these other people have the time ....don't they really have anything better to do?
I saw on another site, a gentleman who was reproducing vintage postcard images on note cards and other paper items. He was careful, all of the images he used were at least 100 years old.
My Father was a professional photographer. Whenever a local facebook group member posts one of his photographs, my sister in law points out who owns the copyright and asks it be recognized. When a discussion occurred regarding copying someone else's photograph, she attempted to explain the law...and got called a privileged, self entitled Karen. I wish there was an equivalent name for men because I would have used it. By the way, my Father did one photograph that does seem to be copied on a regular basis...to the point where the name of the original photographer is never mentioned. I know it because I was there when it was taken and know well the curtains and flooring. And I got Bruce Springsteen's autograph and threw it away before he ever became famous....
I once stood in line for 3 hours to get Dale Earnhardt Sr's autograph. Periodically staff came down the line repeating "if the item you want signed is not Nascar authorized, it will not be signed. The only exception is if it is a photograph with a fan taken at an earlier event and is now here to be signed." He felt very strongly about controlling his image.

It's funny, I've seen others write asking how do people have time to post in this forum. Me personally, I don't find it time restricting, but I also have no kids. I spend my afternoons posting items for sale and answering questions from buyers, so I'm already online. I just occasionally look at the boards to see if anything looks interesting or something I can offer advice on. So it's not time consuming for me in any way or I wouldn't be on here....

It is funny isn't it?
People say "you're here all day, you must have no life"
My question is how do they KNOW if somebody is here all day? Unless they too are here all day. LOL
Like you, it takes less than a minute to write a reply- maybe a lil longer if I add links etc...
I access the site on my laptop, it sits on a side table by my spot (thanks Sheldon Cooper) on the sofa.
I am up & down doing chores, cooking, taking dogs out, feeding the birds & squirrels and so on. I have my laptop open with a few tabs for eBay & eBay boards, along with other stuff.. It's really easy to see if new replies have been made-
I live very rural and work at home- only go to town about once a week- so Yep, I'm blessed, I can be on eBay ALL day, EVERY day and I am not ashamed.

I'm not "here" all day, I'm online and on ebay all day - and night - since my pc is always on and my account opened as I'm always working (in a sense, may not be orders specifically, but always doing something, books, sourcing, researching etc....) I wander into the community several times a day, sometimes it's like 2 seconds - other times I read some posts, or replies, or whatever. I see some who post in 100 threads a day... never accused them of being on community all the time... sure they doing the same thing, multi-tasking.

Sellers have copied and pasted my exact title and descriptions. Everything is identical to my listing. Is that against Ebay policy?
