Thank you

The transaction ID is something that is assigned by eBay and should be easily recognizable in the transaction details they are furnished by eBay at checkout. PayPal also assigns a transaction number if they paid using PayPal. This information would also be available to them through their PayPal account.
If they are requesting this information from you I would suspect that something isn't quite as it should be and would be on the lookout for a bogus email stating that payment had been received when it had not been.

No, I can't.

Tell them you include the Ebay transaction number, for their records, on the packing slip inside their order when you ship it out. If they are trying to set up a scam, they will get back to you without buying but trying to get a transaction number first. In that case, put them on your blocked buyer list and ignore them. If they buy and pay, send them a packing slip with the requested information inside their order.

There could be all kinds of reasons they want it. It may just be for their own records or it could be some other reason. It isn't anything that should raise red flags for you. They have access to that number if they want it. Apparently they just don't know where to look.
You can let them know they can see it on the Purchase History, then go to View Order Details on the right side of the screen.

Are you ABSOLUTELY sure they bought something? I got an email recently that said:
"I placed a order but sw nothing indicating what type of shipment for me to speed it up or not. i would like to talk to someone by phone if possible. thanks."
And yet when I do a search by both their name and their email I find no order.
So I ignored it and that was the end of it.

Yep, this is a common scam. I can't imagine anyone falling for it, but evidently some people do. They are trying to get your phone number so they can con you and get you to send them gift cards or other items you may have for sale.

How could this be a "scam"? If they didn't purchase anything, there is nothing to ship and no payment. So how could they or what would they be scamming the seller for??
If it ends up that the seller doesn't show a sale to that particular buyer, you just tell them that. The buyer may have thought they made a purchase, but didn't or they may have purchased it from another seller.
Or are you suggesting that a seller might ship something out to a buyer that they have not confirmed they even have a sale to much less a payment?

Yes, a new seller very well might do that. We have seen that scenario related on the boards a few times over the years, although not recently.
