Transaction Defect Rate for ending items out of stock?

Hi all, I'm really confused and I was hoping you could help. I have been selling on ebay for years now, and recently I started seeing out of stock items showing up as in stock. I remembered there was a setting to turn that off (I dont remember turning it on) but I couldnt find it (and it was black friday week so I was busy) so I just ended any items that were showing up as in stock when they weren't.

I now have dropped "below standard" on my transaction defect rate... for ending "buy it now" items (not auctions) that were not in stock... I tried calling Ebay and the person on the other line didn't seem to understand what I was asking, and continued to tell me to read the help documents, which I have, and everything I see tells me I shouldn't be penalized for ending "Buy it now" items... for not being in stock.

I also tried to appeal it using the "defect removal request" tool and it doesnt bring up the items that they are telling me I have defects on. Any thoughts? What can I do to get help? I've now turned off the setting now that I've found it. I don't want to lose over 10 years of good standing with ebay because of something that shouldn't be penalizing me.

Did any of them have any sales against them>

Specifically HOW did you end them? i.e. what did you click and where.

@shinyrocksgoods

You don't get a defect for ending a listing.

If you had to cancel an order for an item that was out of stock, then yes, you do get a defect.

As others said, you don't get defects  for ending listings @shinyrocksgoods. You get defects for cancelling orders out of stock and for unresolved cases. There has to be a transaction involved. Go to this page, find the defects and click 'get full report' to find out which transactions were impacted.

Hey you two, thank you! That's the thing though, I didn't cancel them. I ended the listings, I even double checked it was "end listing" and it's still showing up as if I cancelled them. I'm not even sure how to ask Ebay since the people on the phone didn't understand.

I clicked "end listing" no longer in stock via the mobile app, I definitely didn't cancel the orders because they are still there, and I still received payment.

hanks Kensgiftshop, that's the problem I'm having is I didn't cancel them, I only ended them, via the mobile app, and specifically chose "end listing" and "no longer in stock" all of the items were still paid for...and no refunds  occured, and they arent marked as cancelled, that's why this is so bizarre.

If you're using the app to end the listings, might be another glitch in it.

I think I figured it out. It looks like the transaction defect rate was for over the entire year-- not the past month when this was happening. It just happened to be the exact number of items that I had ended as was cancelled previously this year (due to customer cancellations). Sorry for the confusion, that was not very clear at all from the dashboard as to which transactions this was for.

But cancellations "At Buyer Request" don't lead to Defects and should not impact your account.

Did you use some other reason for cancelling?

The other two things I noticed that could be part of your trouble are:

I'm not even sure how to ask Ebay since the people on the phone didn't understand.

Never phone customer service. Use Chat or FB or Twitter. The phone reps are poorly trained subcontractors with almost no authority.

I clicked "end listing" no longer in stock via the mobile app,

The mobile app is glitchy and underpowered. It may be adequate for simple listings, but don't use it for anything more complex.
