Does that mean you bought the postage at the post office over the counter?
First, buy your postage online. You get an automatic transfer of the number to your sale AND you get a discount.
You might be able to retrieve the number if you go back to the post office. Surely they must have a record of the sale. They might be able to enter the to/from names in their computer and bring it up that way.

I will try that. Thanks

Absolutely! Just follow the instructions for “print out a shipping label “ from the sold message eBay sends you. Do this once you never go back..

Slow down, take a breath, and treat those receipts like they are money. (They are!!!). Even without considering a dollar value, losing a tracking number can be as aggravating or worse than losing a $100 bill if it turns out you need it.

If I buy postage over the counter at my Post Office part of there new software
asks you how you want your receipt. The choices are (Printed) (e-Mailed to you)
(Or Both) The clerks don't usually ask you and just hit printed to save themselves
some time, but if you want to give them your e-Mail address they are supposed
to do it for you.

I would definitely give the address to the clerk and have him/her type it in for you via their keyboard (as opposed to doing it yourself on the touch screen) if you want it emailed to you. It's a lot quicker, and those behind you in line will thank you for it.
I tried keying in my email address myself on the touch screen once in order to try out the process, and it was agony. If your address has any special characters in it (mine has underscores), you have to jump to an alternate keyboard to find it, then jump back to the main alpha keyboard. Odds of a typo are pretty good, as the address is not verified while you're standing there, as far as I could tell. I'm perfectly familiar with these virtual keypads, too; I can't imagine how some slower members of the public would cope with it. No wonder that every clerk I've encountered over the past month or so is already hitting the Printed button themselves, in order to keep the line of customers moving along.
