Top Seller's Dilemma

I hope someone can solve this puzzle for me.  eBay's requirements for Top Seller notation is one-day response.  For the vast majority of my items, that is no problem.  However, I have several items that require customer input ("send me you list of 25 choices") for example.  Many times, customers will pay, but forget to send me their list.  I have to hound and harass them to get the lists on time, but sometimes they don't go back to their computers.  I have two choices.  1)I can be late while I wait for the customer; or 2)I can cancel their order then catch "you-know-what" from eBay for canceling an order.  I have two "black marks" on my record now and eBay refused my appeal.  For a while, I listed those items as 10-days, but sales dwindled to zilch for them when I lost my Top Seller badge.  Recommendation?

Top Seller's Dilemma

Yes, a very simple suggestion...

Do not list things in a way that require buyer input. Make a listing for each item for sale, OR use variation listings.

Buyers buying your inventory, should be a one click buy it now, or a selection from a drop down menu. Making it complicated, makes it too difficult for buyers. Makes a lot more foot work for you. Keep it simple.

Open a second account to sell the things you can't ship quickly.

I didn't think choice listings were permitted.  I thought the only option was to use variations that are chosen with a drop down box by buyers.

I have requested drop down menus, but eBay informed me that my product does not qualify.

Top Seller's Dilemma

The product is game playing discs for a baseball board game called Cadaco All-Star Baseball.  Customers choose which players they want a disc for.  I have about sixty pre-chosen sets, but they want to be able to choose their favorite players.  The only way for that is to sell them a choice set.

After looking over the product, most sellers are selling them in SETS. If you are selling individual players, then I would make a listing for EACH player, with multiple quantities available. You will gain traction as they sell. Might be a lot of listings, but you will greatly benefit over time with buyers being able to quickly buy what they want and no hassles of trying to message them.

Set up a listing template and create similar listings. You can get the listings up faster that way.

I get you are doing a set plus their choice of player. Just sell the set as one listing, and direct them to your store to purchase their favorite player as an add on.  They buy exactly what they want, and you don't have to screw around messaging buyers.

Thanks for the reply.  We're talking about the entire Major League Baseball current and past.  I did put out a listing that included over a thousand for them to choose 25 from, but even then some of the buyers made the purchase and only sent their list of choices a few days later.

This is interesting.  I can see that for some unrelated items.  But the problem is that the whole purpose is to maintain my Top Seller rating.

Is there a reason you can't use variation listings?

I don't think 250 variations would even come close to covering a 250 choose 25 probability situation or even a 50 choose 25 situation.

The permutations are astronomical.

You won't lose your top rated status by extending your handling time.  Those listings with an extended handling time just will not qualify as top rated plus and get the discount.

I can solve your puzzle with one sentence: There is no one-day shipping requirement for Top Rated seller status.

Qualify as a Top Rated Seller

To become a Top Rated Seller, you must meet the following guidelines:

  • An eBay account that’s been active for at least 90 days.
  • 100 or more transactions and $1,000 in sales during the last 12 months with US buyers.
  • A defect rate less than or equal to 0.5%, with three or fewer defects from unique buyers.
  • Cases closed without seller resolution less than or equal to 0.3%, and two or fewer cases.
  • A late shipment rate less than or equal to 3%, and five or fewer late shipments.
  • Tracking uploaded within your stated handling time, and carrier validation for 95% of transactions to US buyers.

Once you meet these requirements, we will automatically upgrade you to the Top Rated Seller status at your next evaluation.
