So I recently realized that you don't always have to offer free returns for TRS+ on some listings. So I went in and changed some of my listings for movies and books to 1-day shipping so they would qualify. How soon will that go into effect? Will they have to relist before they do?
If I go into my seller level, it says none of my active listings qualify but if I go in to edit them, it shows that they qualify. If someone buys them right now, will I get that credit or will I have to wait?
Also, since I'm here, I'm considering changing more of my listings over to free returns/1-day handling but I'm still nervous about getting tons of returns. My return rate is very low and many people open a return and never follow through. Obvi, I won't be putting it on adult clothing/shoes or expensive electronics. After MP, I didn't realize that the discount is much better than it was before and I can totally get my items out next day.

You will receive the benefits as soon as the change to the listing is made (1-day handling w/30-day returns (free where needed), You don't have to wait for the listings to relist.
Most of my own listings fall under DVDs and i really appreciate that eBay offers this benefit (discount without Free Returns) so that DVD Sellers don't become DVD Rental Stores.
Otherwise i use free returns sparingly on the items that i believe have a good resale value used, are cool enough that i would take it for my personal collection or are items sourced for next to nothing and i have no problems simply refunding an order (with no return) to quell a troublesome or disgruntled Buyer...

Top Rated Plus you must have 1-day handling time and 30-day FREE RETURNS. When you meet those requirements badge will immediately appear on your listing.

Well, there are actually certain categories (like music and books) where you don't have to have free returns. So that's not actually true and people really need to know that there are categories that don't require returns to get the TRS+ discount.

If you check the help pages again it says you will receive the benefits but the badge won't be displayed on the listings that don't require FREE returns in their categories. You will need to find the Seller Dashboard...it has a place that shows how many and which listings qualify for the benefits.

to Caldreamer...
Check again!
Not in all categories.
Some categories don't even require returns to be offered at all to recieve the benefits.

Thanks for the heads up...I didn't realize that some categories are exempt from "free returns".

Ah, thanks! So my Seller Dashboard still says I don't have any that qualify, which is why I'm confused. I changed my books/movies to 1-day shipping and they have always had 30 day (non free) returns. I changed the shipping rule for media mail, basically but didn't change the return rule at all. Is there anything else I need to do?

If you want to show TR-Plus, you have to offer free returns. As the Help page says, "In some product categories, we'll extend the discount benefit (but not the seal) even if you don't offer 30-day free returns."

Wow...that's great to know.

Maybe it takes a while to update on the Seller Dashboard after changing the handling times? I am just guessing because it's been a while since I made any changes to my return or handling time policies.

I have been a trs+ for a long time and sell in category 31387 which is watches
at least 18 months ago they came up with the idea of cutting the watch sellers some slack with the mbg
I only have to take watches back for 14 days ........but I offer 30 days free returns
if I were to try and refuse somone with a return on a technicality I do not think it would work
i take back plenty of returns and it does not bother me that I coud refuse them maybe.
i sort of feel like I cant use the 14 day special rule for watches becuase I am already doing what ebay wants with the 30 day free returns

They added wristwatches to the list of categories where returns aren't required for the TRS Plus benefits. I guess they did that to be compatibe with the final sale/authentification thing.
I have always offered 30 day buyer pays returns on all of my listings anyway.

Thank you for the helpful response that took care of both questions. I think I'll just keep an eye on my Seller Dashboard for updates and maybe gradually add in free returns on some of my listings, like you suggested.
