Tips for selling?

Hey guys I’m a new seller, I have 3 sales and about 70 products, I try to list daily so it’s growing slowly, I get views and watchers but it’s been a week with no bites. I’m just curious if it’s something I’m doing or can do to help, I think it’s good stuff, fair prices, shipping is figured out well, I try to use all 80 characters in the titles and take the best pictures I know how to take.. any advice?

Re: Tips for selling?

Ya I figured as much, I did it mostly just for my amusement to play a little as I work elsewhere during the day and wanted to play store when I got home. Haha but thanks for the advice.

Re: Tips for selling?

Try a few listings with free shipping and up the sale on the item...some buyers look for 'free shipping'.

That would be 'domestic shipping' only.

Re: Tips for selling?

While I'm sure the type of item affects it, we tried offering Free Shipping for a little while on about 1/3 of our items to test the impact (mostly books), and it made almost no impact on the sell-thru rate of those items.  Granted, there could have been a number of other factors affecting that, but we had enough items with and without free shipping I felt it was a good test.

To your point, folks can google the question and see what is said about offering Free returns on eBay ...

Additionally, the top two filters in Advanced search in one section includes Free returns and Returns accepted.

Re: Tips for selling?

Clothing is a tough to sell item.  eBay is flooded with it.    One thing you can do is search for items your selling and see what prices they are going for.  You can click the sold items box on the left of the search page.

As stated it's a bit slow at the moment.

Re: Tips for selling?

The algorithms can be strange sometimes as to what and when items are shown for sale.

I know some would say I am weird but I just don't think everything gets exposure 24 / 7 everyday.

I am selling items that have been listed quite a while back not promoted  while new listings are not selling with the nice price tags promoted.

And the promoted rates don't help since some sellers promote extremely high promoted rates and sell 10,000+ items in their store.

So, although 'free shipping' on something might not sell...the buyer might look at other items and make a purchase where the item has a shipping charge.

It's like the 'grocery store' sale concept...where some items on sale and some not...who's to say the shopper doesn't end up not buying items on sale because they found something better...but it made the shopper come into the store to shop.

Re: Tips for selling?

I would not be looking for many sales for a while yet, particularly since just about everything here is saturated unless it's very unusual, very highly sought-after, etc., and you only have a few things running. Just keep going, keep adding items and tweaking things to improve visibility (as suggested here).  Sales go up and down and it's the long view that's important. I just came back to selling after about five months off and despite my having sold here for a long time, it took weeks to finally get some bites - it used to not take that long, but this site is so overloaded now. I'm selling out the rest of my stock so don't look for banner sales, but their frequency is beginning to even out - I take the long view.

@chapeau-noir  I have not sold anything here in about 10 years so Im so 'out of the loop'! Haha.

OP, using Google Lens is another way to see what prices others are selling at or help identify something.

Re: Tips for selling?

Thanks for the advice, Ya it seems that way these days, everyone is looking for the same thing I think. I work and decided to give this a shot as I had so much stuff I usually just donate and then Goodwill or whomever would price gouge the consumers over items I gave away, that I decided to start reselling and see where it takes me, currently just offloading personal belongings, but if it came to it Id totally love to buy and sell as well. I was sitting here kinda wondering what I was doing wrong as I had the views and not a lot of sales and like most, I know this is part of the game but more than anything, it can feel lonely and slightly scary tackling this stuff alone so having the community around to ask questions is great, Im like there is always room for improvement! So I appreciate all the feedback as I hope to keep this going. It's fun 🙂 Thanks again.

Re: Tips for selling?

Absolutely agree, My main concern with free shipping is if someone orders something and they are pretty far from Colorado where Im located and then I eat the costs, I Like charging shipping because I feel less concerned about that. But I am the type to see free shipping and almost assume it's the better deal and proceed to go with that option. Ive learned a lot in the few weeks ive been on here selling, one item a week so far and its enough to give me that excitement you get when you finally make a sale, its fun.. Im in no rush to sell items more so just curious what I could do that I don't know about. So much conflicting information out there it can feel a littler overwhleming when in reality, it's supposed to be kind of fun!
Thanks for the advice!! Have a great day ..

Re: Tips for selling?

I do have one other question as I have you attention here, I sold an item here recently to a diplomatic mail address, It was wild looking and I had to goggle it because I was like this is odd, I don't have international shipping allowed yet. I found out about Diplomatic mail on my second order, haha anyways, I printed it and took it to the post office and handed it directly to the mail lady to have her scan it and make sure I did this one right because I was confused by it. Anyways, that's a tad of the backstory, I shipped it and it landed in MIAMI Florida, said international, then disappeared off my tracking now my seller tracker is stuck on Miami. It should have been delivered by now, but I can't see anything. And at this point I feel like no news is good news, But how do I know, Also call me what you will, I get nervous to reach out to the customer to hey, did you get this, because I Feell like I would initiate an opportunity to be scammed or something by asking. I know that sounds weird, Ive been in customer service related work my whole life, so I know more than not it's an honest person. But what would you do?

@candd205  is absolutely right.

Measurements are key, and I bet you'll see an uptick in sales if you provide those.

If I don't see measurements, I scroll past. It's not worth my time to message the seller, and I'd rather give my business to a seller who took the time to fully describe the garment.

Re: Tips for selling?

Make sure to put measurements in all of your clothing listings. Measurements are important, since sizes are not standardized (especially womens clothing, which is a nightmare when it comes to inconsistent sizing.) Some clothing sellers put measurements, some don't, having them is an advantage and can help some with sales, and can help reduce returns too.

Your photos are fine. Clean, simple, good detail, look real and have no removed or fake backgrounds.

The items you are selling are all in saturated categories and are "long tail". They are not "bad" items, but they may take quite a while to sell. Just make sure you price research and have good prices.
