Did you mean:

Time to stock up on popcorn.

With the upcoming tariff induced price hikes coming along with the inevitable USPS price increase I suspect these boards are going to explode.

I do like a good train wreck.

Re: Time to stock up on popcorn.

I have a feeling the era of the cheap Chinese goods is coming to an end.

Personally I look forward to the day we no longer have to compete with the "SpeedPAK" shipping from China.

Like many companies and organizations, the Postal Service has a board that oversees operations. This board is called the Board of Governors. One of its roles is to select the Postmaster General.  The Board of Governors itself is made up of as many as nine governors, who are appointed by the President and confirmed by the Senate. No more than five governors at any one time may be from the same political party. The governors select and have the authority to remove the Postmaster General.

Oh, do tell.  Nice try.

Oh i told. 😀

The current administration has the power of the executive orders to make many changes but chose not to. I am not saying they would be lawful or upheld by a court, but they HAVE used the power of the pen many times just to have it reversed after a court says, No No No. 😂 They could force it or influence it but have not

and will not. You have a better chance of having eBay put back your "Saved Sellers Notes" to your account than have the current administration actually following through with anything with the time left. Except for pardons or course. YMMV LOL

Maybe if everyone participated in a "Silent Protest" we could accomplish more. 😂

Not to mention the slave labor used to manufacture the crap that ends up in our landfills. No one should be defending the CCP.

If you think of it, a China tariff may actually be more environmentally better than certain legislation that never passed. It is environmentally safer and supports human rights. YMMV

Well I've been saying for a long time I'm still waiting for someone to tell me how sending millions of cargo ships back and forth all over the world every year is "green".

Re: Time to stock up on popcorn.

I agree with @moviman630.  Made in the USA will have no tariffs. I would love to see the Chinese imports get more expensive. And foreign companies can always put a factory here, like many car manufacturers do.

Yeah, no, again,  Trump can't appoint or remove a  Postmaster General with an executive order and Biden can't remove the Postmaster General with an executive order.  You are so out of your depth on this one, you should apply for a pardon for spreading misinformation on how the government works.  I hear a lot of criminals will be getting pardons on January 21.

This true - the board has, for some reason, decided that DeJoyless is somehow OK, even though congress called him on the mat for incompetence.

I'd be more concerned about the weather and how much snow and very cold weather this way comes.

A good snowfall can put a halt on deliveries...

Re: Time to stock up on popcorn.

Exactly! The U.S. currently pays tariffs on goods imported from dozens of countries, and has for decades.  I think many people are overlooking the fact that the current administration never removed the tariffs that were put in place during the president elect's first term.    Obviously, they weren't all that damaging, as his opponents basically undid virtually every other thing he did.

Personally, I'm in favor of the tariffs for the reasons you've mentioned, in addition to a number of others.  I'd like to see manufacturing come home (my father ran a small manufacturing business for fifty years, only to have the CCP steal every one of his designs in the final decade he was manufacturing goods that he sold all over the world).   China produces more pollution than any western nation, and more than most developing countries.  Their labor laws are appalling, their blatant disregard of things like patents and copyright laws destroys small business, and they liberally use chemicals in the goods they produce that are even more toxic than those we use (which is some accomplishment, considering the amount of crap we allow into our own food).  They've been very clear about the fact that they have absolutely no problem with running this country right into the ground. I'm perfectly okay with making it more difficult for them to accomplish that goal.

Higher tariffs on goods coming in from China will make it much less attractive to buy the schlock they produce, because the reality is, we only buy their garbage because it's so incredibly cheap.  No one ever says, "ooo, look at this beautiful China-made handbag!" or "I just love that amazing Chinese cheese!"  We do business with China because no one else is able to compete with their prices. We've completely forfeited our desire for quality goods in favor of mountains of crap that just ends up broken in our landfills in five minutes. A 60% tariff on their goods will put costs right about where the 20% tariff on all other goods is and, personally, I'd much rather buy French cheese and Italian handbags.

What? Did you fall out of a coconut tree? The way executive orders are written these days, there is no need for them to be legal. 😂 Something can/could of been done but the current administration would rather fight for men participating in women's sports than supporting areas that WOULD help most. YMMV

Use your imagination or should i say "Reimagine" what has been. Either administration could start by asking them to step down and/or putting a pressure campaign for change. Executive orders have been ways some administrations have circumvented current law temporary to implement the change needed. (a push some may say) Not agreeing with it but it has been effective in the past. (good or bad)

I think you are correct on the pardons. You are going to see the most pardons this January initiated by a departing administration in history. 😽

Agreed 100% (except that something could be done externally)

Dejoyless should resign and let someone else take a crack at it. Just like any other institution that plays by the same rules as we all do, everything should be merit based. And as far as i am concerned, he has fallen well short of his duties. (regardless of the situation) Change is needed quickly.

Yeah, I believe that record is currently held by the administration that departed in January 2021.  The only difference this time around is they'll be given to people who deserve them instead of criminals.

I know, can you believe it? 😊 See, we have more in common than what divides us.

It is nice to know that you do have potential for having positive conversations. I know it's hard these days and the last week might have been a little heavy to accept but it will get better. YMMH IMHO

Re: Time to stock up on popcorn.

Not every seller who imports product will be affected.

China cannot afford the loss of business which the tariffs will cost them.

Big importers will receive lower prices to offset some or all of the tariff costs.

Small importers will go out of business or need to find American products to sell.

The noise will die down as the small importers leave Ebay.

The overall effect will be less predictable than many expect. Maybe better for the US, maybe worse. And when they are happening, the denizens of this forum will disagree on whether they are good or bad.

Re: Time to stock up on popcorn.

Oh yes, no doubt it will get better when a guy with a dead worm in his brain is in charge of our health, a Putin apologist is the head of national security, a talkshow host with a white nationalist tattoo is running the Pentagon, and a guy with no legal background to speak of who likes to show sex videos to his colleagues is AG.  Good times are just around the corner.
