The straw that broke the camels back

For years i have endured and followed the rules and all the asundry other obsticles that eBay has hobbled us sellers with.

And like my favorite teacher in school said " change there will always be change keep up with it and you will be good"

Well eBay has just sent me a message saying my product identifiers are not valid or included and  my listings will not be shown .

i get maybe  5% of the views i get from local venues such as offerup , 5miles , etc. while here i have to offer 5 year returns and free coffee with every purchase.

Well you know what eBay i have had it i am through buying here as well .

You used to be my first place to look when i needed or wanted something.

( Now in the last month alone i have had to open 6 cases on sellers who  after i buy and pay a day later i get a message from you eBay saying the itemi was interested in is not longer available and the seller is no longer a registered seller ). so the seller has my money i have no product i have to wait 4 days to start a case then i have to wait a week for the non seller to not respond then i have to  get back intouch with you eBay  so i can get my money back after 10 DAYS! Between  this the fees and the non visibility and the ridiculous rules now i see you as a joke  some place that used to be serious about service and selling.

So tell me eBay why am i here?

Since *eBay* can't answer you here, I assume you are posting this to the members here, but none of us will be able to tell you why you are still here.

Do you make any money here?  Some sellers make enough that they're here year after year, earning their livings or a portion of it as eBay sellers.

Is it an interesting hobby for you?  Some sellers enjoy the fun of treasure hunting, and eBay serves them as a place to sell off those acquisitions that they're getting rid of to make room for the new.  And often enough, the new came from.. eBay.  So some eBay sellers just think this is fun, and when they make a few bucks profit each month, that's fun too, but not really a huge deal in the end.

Are you downsizing and getting rid of a lifetime's accumulation of stuff, so your kids don't have to do all that a few years down the road when they close up the old homestead and your estate?  We get those sellers here too.. just sorting through all their lifetime, and listing it, piece by piece, here on eBay.

And eBay certainly has people leave here too.  It isn't a prison term.  We can come and go as we will.  I guess as long as we're getting something out of it, we stay.  And many of us expand onto other sites as well, having been bitten by the *sell it online* bug.  But some of us decide to get out, or at least pause for awhile, so that's an option.  You'll just have to decide what you really want to do.

Sorry you're having the problems you've described.  I know some folks here do seem to run into trouble in getting up their listings, in dealing with their buyers, or with their sellers.. as you describe.  Maybe you can think over what type of sellers you're dealing with, to try to figure out why you are running into so many problems here.

The straw that broke the camels back

For years i have endured and followed the rules and all the asundry other obsticles that eBay has hobbled us sellers with.

None of us are forced to sell here.  If  you don't like the site, then locate one of the other available sites and see how you do there.

Well eBay has just sent me a message saying my product identifiers are not valid or included and  my listings will not be shown .

If this is catching you by surprise, then you have not been following the MANY notifications by Ebay that PIs are the way of the future here.  The Spring Seller update from last year explained things and I think there was more in the Fall Seller Update from last year.  Plus there has been other emails along the way letting all of us know the deadlines were coming.  Members that choose not to read and/or consider the info in this emails are only hurting themselves.

while here i have to offer 5 year returns and free coffee with every purchase.

LOL

( Now in the last month alone i have had to open 6 cases on sellers who  after i buy and pay a day later i get a message from you eBay saying the itemi was interested in is not longer available and the seller is no longer a registered seller ).

Well now that certainly is a problem and you should call Ebay immediately.  When a Seller is misbehaving and Ebay has the need to step in and shut them down, the do NOT NARU the seller publically.  They freeze their account so they can't do anything, but ALL the buyers that have had transactions with the seller still have the ability to file Requests as needed and/or leave FB.  Ebay does NOT publically close a seller's account for about 90 days after the last transaction.

Since you have had SIX of these recently, you really need to find out what is going on as this is potentially a very serious issue for you and others.

so the seller has my money i have no product i have to wait 4 days to start a case then i have to wait a week for the non seller to not respond then i have to  get back intouch with you eBay  so i can get my money back after 10 DAYS!

Since you are an experienced seller, you should know that once you file a Request, the seller no longer has your money.  PP places a hold on that money and the seller can not access it until the Request is resolved.  I'm sorry to hear it is taking you up to 10 days to get your money back.  You can escalate your Request to a Claim in about 72 hours after you open it and then Ebay will step in and rule on the matter.

Between  this the fees and the non visibility and the ridiculous rules now i see you as a joke  some place that used to be serious about service and selling.

So tell me eBay why am i here?

I respect your frustration.  But some of what you are angry with Ebay about is just due to a lack of understanding of the process and not staying current on the rules and/or changes.  You will make it much easier on yourself if you follow the Seller Updates and other emails Ebay sends out with information.

Keep your eyes peeled as the new Fall Seller's Update for 2017 is overdue, so we should be seeing it any day.

I suggest you check the feedback of each seller before you purchase from them and also how long they have been selling here. For example, look up my info and you can see i have been registered since May 2007. This, along with number of solds and feedback should let you know your selling is an active member, not going to shut down and steal your money.

The straw that broke the camels back

As i stated in my post  the preverbial straw that broke the camels back.

By that i mean all the little rules and updates that were added since we all signed on here (that was not in our original agreement) are adding up   .

So you attack me  because i gripe about it  and then lay blame on me when i bought from sellers that eBay is supposed to vett .

I know things change  and with eBay its like a job for them to make up new fees or rules that increase our risk let make them more money . (yes i know that money is what they are supposed to make)

However you and more importantly eBay seems to forget i am their customer not the other way around .

 am i a prisoner no i never said i was .

were follow the rules to attain and keep top rated status  and they throw more and more on it  , from 3 day to 7 day them 30 day returns.   then after following these rules they decide a 20% discount is too much and  then cut that by a little no they cut it by half!

So i have 6  things i bought from various sellers and you think that i (not eBay ) should check into this as it is a problem that  could affect other users ?

And somehow i am at fault for shopping here on eBay ?

And on the matter of the money not going to the sellers that may or may not be the case depending on the sellers status and tenure here  you should know that.

And if eBay has locked the money up then why  do i have to wait so long to get it back when the  seller is no longer registered here?

If we as sellers did what eBay does there would be suspensions  and probably charges filed on us.

I mainly did this post to vent and to let others know  if theyt feel the same way they are not alone.

Do you not feel that i have any valid points here?

I used to love it here it was fun safe and reliable now its truely the opposite yes i can go elsewhere and i am .

The straw that broke the camels back

So sorry this happened to you and I know that you are very upset and frustrated now.  No offense, I know it sounds like they are blaming you; but they are just pointing out that you may need to vet your sellers better, and they are basing that on the fact that you said you had that problem with six sellers lately.  That is a lot!   You state that is Ebay's job to vet the seller, but as the previous poster stated, it is your job, too.

Perhaps you can look at these six sellers and discern a pattern that will help you avoid these problems in the future.  Are they international sellers?  Do their prices seem too good to be true?  These are areas where you may run into problems.

Good luck to you and I hope things go better for you.

@geojefmeteorite

Maybe you should consider starting a new group to vent and complain.

The rest of us read and follow those new rules. If you read them, you

would know, you agree to follow those rules, if you continue to use the site.

Of course EBAY sees these posts.

The Poster is correct,  I'm experiencing the same problems.  I seek out items that are not retial so I don't have 50 million competitors, and EBAY is removing my listings and blocking visiblity to them.

they're trying to eliminate what makes Ebay, Ebay. and turn it into Amazon.

But amazon will just assign a unique barcode if one doesn't exist.  they don't make you remove your items.

Who ever is running EBAY these days ,  They know nothing about their own customers, or their own selling experience.  and they just don't care.

Look at the number of complaints,  They just don't care how bad it gets for thier sellers.  They just don't care about anything involving thier customers, (the sellers)

It has nothing to do with not keeping up with the rules.  Millions of items do not have product identifiers.  I've never seen a bolt, a nut, a piece of metal, replacement wheel, a pulley, a bucket, a piece of cloth, a hand made item, anything ever bought in bulk directly from a manufacturer,  Construction materials,  raw materials,  Beads, Blanks, Rods, Car Parts, Electircal Components,  Specialty Fasteners, Items bought for the sole purpose of repackaging,  Sub Assemblies, Welding Supplies, Craft Supplies  ....... I can go on all day ......   With barcodes on them.

The only items with Barcodes are retail items.  that knocks out almost everything for sale on EBAY.
