Hi,

I am trying to add exrta information to my description as well as adding extra photos however I am getting the error  "The return policy cannot be changed or removed if an auction-style listing has a bid or ends within 12 hours, or a fixed price listing has a pending Best Offer."

The listing has recieved a bid but I am not tampering with the returns policy.  Only the description and photos.

Has anyone came across this?

You can’t change the description or photos once you have a bid. You would have to end and relist. 

Cant explain why you are getting that wacky error message, but, hey, it’s Ebay after all.

I have noticed that ANY edit that I do also "updates" the Return Policy, even if I didn't touch it at all.

You can see it in the revision history 😞

Thanks for the replys everyone.  I spoke to eBay customer service and they have confirmed it's a technichal issue with the site.  It's currently being investigated.

How much time is remaining on the listing? The message you get on the error screen may be boilerplate and not actually helpful.

Here's what can and can't be changed on an auction style listing:

Auction-style listings

What you change in an auction-style listing depends on how long is left on the listing.

More than 12 hours

What's changeable depends on if your listing has received any bids

No bids

You can:

• Remove the following optional listing upgrades: Buy It Now, eBay photo upgrades, reserve price, 10-day listing (in applicable categories)
• Add optional listing upgrades to increase your item's visibility
• Add or change photos
• Add a second category, unless there are category restrictions. (Fees may apply)
• Reduce the starting price of your item. (You won't receive credit for any difference in your insertion fees)

You can't:

• Change the listing format
• Extend the listing duration if 2 or more hours have passed since the listing was submitted

Bids

You can:

• Add a second category, unless there are category restrictions. (Fees may apply)
• Add to the item description
• Add photos
• Add optional listing upgrades to increase your item's visibility

You can't:

• Change the listing format

I've had the same issue for months; I've called repeatedly; been put on hold and transferred repeatedly and still the issue has not been corrected.  I'm getting sick and tired of Ebay treating sellers like DIRT.   Deano

I have had the same error message when trying to change qty to "0" from "1" after selling an item on anther site - for months.

Sometimes it allows the change and others it won't.

TWICE now I've tried to change the available qty down to zero without success and then the bloody thing sells on eBay as well as the other site. 2 orders with only 1 in stock.

Total pain in the **bleep** and make me then have to go and source one from another seller.

I have the same issue for years now. It has never solved by Ebay.

I talked to Ebay and they resolved for me - go to Businesses policies and opt out, revise the listing and then got back to the policies and opt in again
