In September, the case numbers for INR were 5148xxxxxx.
INRs were 5149xxxxxx earlier this month, then 5150xxxxxx this week.
So INRs are about halfway through all the available case numbers in this series.
But the case numbers for returns are already at 5067xxxxxx this week --
or already over two-thirds of the way to exhausting all the available case numbers.

I and others have noticed that we've had an uptick in returns - mostly from new users - who either can't see the description and don't know to click on the blue button or are too busy and don't even read the listing.

There is no real incentive for a buyer to be careful when a seller offers: Free Shipping and Free Returns.

If you have buyers requesting to return because they can't see the description or fail to read the description maybe it's time to change to a no return policy. At least then you have some protection if the return request is a buyer remorse request. If they file a NAD case and you can clearly fight it because whatever their problem~~it was outlined in the description they failed to read. I have a no return policy and have had it for years~~it has helped me MANY times in not having to accept a return. I've had return requests due to smoke odor~~all I have to do is call ebay and point out my disclaimer and cases are closed in my favor. I've had feedback removed due to the same disclaimer in my listings. If you are a TRS & get the piddly 10% discount you need to ask yourself if it is really worth it. It wasn't worth it to me even when it was a 20% discount.

Do you get the postal discount not being a TRS? Do you get the extra $50 insurance when mailing Priority? I enjoying the shipping discount and the extra $50 priority insurance.
I will not do Free Returns and I only do free shipping on items when the shipping is less than $5.00 and that's only to get better placement in search.

Do I get the postal discount not being a TRS? I am a TRS. I ship over the counter so a postal discount doesn't interest me. The extra $50.00 insurance doesn't interest me either as most items I sell are under the $50.00 insured value anyway. When I changed to a 3 day handling time and no returns I lost the 20% discount. That never added up to enough in any given month for me to stress over meeting the same or next day shipping time or for accepting returns for no reason and getting stuck with return shipping cost.
Life has been so much easier since I went to 3 day handling time and changed to a no return policy~~AND I still maintain my TRS but without the perks. That's fine with me. I still have 100% feedback, all 5 star ratings, -0- defects. 100% on shipping time and only 4 returns in the last 12 months. That's good enough for me.
You do free returns when you have to pay return shipping because you have to accept returns for no reason and are most times stuck with the return shipping cost. That is "free returns".

Ha, just wait until an unscrupulous and deceitful buyer circumvents your "no return policy" or sellers restock fees applied for buyer remorse returns by claiming NAD for the same item through PayPal.
This happens, of course, after they have already opened a return case on eBay and stated that they "just don't want it" for the return reason and don't want to have to pay for a restock fee or even return shipping.
Then you will see your "no return policy" and any restock fees fly out the door as well as buyer not having to pay for return shipping either.
And eBay will not help you then regardless. PayPal doesn't care about a previous return case opened through eBay or any previous return reason stated by buyer....

I've had a no return policy & 3 day handling time for several years and have remained a TRS all during that time. You don't have to have a 1 day handling time, 30 day return policy, etc. to be a TRS. If you're a seller and the perks aren't worth jumping through the ebay hoops you can still be a TRS with your own policies.

I had my first return in over 4 years because the buyer wouldn't or couldn't ask me a question about the item before buying it. Making it hard to talk to the seller is not a good experience for the potential customer.

So many TRS sellers lose their standings every day and drop to above standard and then right on down to below standard while trying to regain their TRS.
I had a 1 day handling time before when I had a 14 day return policy. I had the badge next to my listings & got the 20% discount. I had a few late shipments and it all wend down from there~~I dropped to above standard and totally lost my TRS.
That was when I decided it wasn't worth it anymore. I changed to 3 day handling and a no return policy. That was easy to keep up with no late shipments. Darn if I didn't find myself back up to TRS in no time flat. I could have changed back to accepting returns and having 1 day shipping and getting that little badge next to my listings but I didn't want to get back into that stress again.
The thing to do when you lose your TRS & drop to above average is to change your policy to something you can live with and you can gain back that TRS status in no time. Then you can figure out if you want to go for all the perks and change back to a 30 day return policy and 1 day handling~~or you can keep your policies as they are and be happy with that TRS banner on your feedback page.

TRS Plus has to offer 30 day returns, and 1 day handling fee, that is what's needed to qualify for the 10% discount.
TRS simply needs to meet the performance standard requirements, according to their specified information. So if they have a 3 day handling time, ship within that, etc.
As for returns, they have become SO easy to do, and I think everyone knows that. I'm sure most also know how to play the system if they want their shipping paid for. Since they (eBay) are dealing with different sellers/businesses, with individual policies, they need to upgrade the return system, to allow for that individuality. And allow sellers to make their own decisions again regarding what they will accept back or not, not have it a 'forced' situation via SNAD claims.

You just keep adding digits.
eBay case numbers are 10 digits.
Return case numbers start with 50:
e.g. 5067xxxxxx
INR case numbers start with 51:
e.g. 5150xxxxxx
There will be a collision soon, when 50 reaches 51.
*Return case numbers were 5064xxxxxx in September, and 5062xxxx in August
