I've noticed that the main image that shows with my item listings is now half the size or the other images (When you look at the images in full size)
This has suddenly started to happen past couple of weeks, it's not just my listings I'm also seeing it on many other listings too.
I usually take about 8 high quality images per listing, and the first main image is the main one showing all contents included. This main image now looks very poor quality when zoomed in as it's only half the size of the other images.
I understand that ebay uses compression to make the images a smaller file size, but why is the main image now smaller and lower quality than the other images?

This has been brought up a number of times. Apparently it's some kind of glitch. Hopefully to be resolved, soon - I don't create my images to be big and bright only to have them reduced to pint size.

It is a problem affecting some members and not others. There is another thread on this subject. You should really contact Ebay and report the problem. I don't see it on the list of known issues on the Technical Board, so no one may have reported it yet.
I would suggest that you contact Ebay for Business on Facebook or Twitter for the better trained CSRs.
Here are your options for contacting Ebay Customer Service.

If when you use the link below you can only get to the Automated Assistant, type AGENT in the box and hit enter. You will then get more options.

How is this merely a glitch? As a buyer how am I to evaluate an item I'm considering when the first photo is so tiny? This has been going on for a number of days, so if it were merely a glitch it would've been fixed by now. I've been buying stuff here too long to not be cynical.
If I save the image files, the first image is a fraction of the others. In one example of a cover I'm considering, the first saved image is 19 Kb, the second is 99 Kb. Obviously, the first image is the important one for a cover.
Further, I've noticed for a couple of months that the first image file is sometimes a different file type than the others (often it's a png versus a jpg for the rest). So, something is being done to change these image files.
As Philip J. Fry would say: fixit fixit fixit. Thank you in advance.

"How is this merely a glitch?" Cuz it is. Computer driven systems sometimes have them. Some issues are easier to fix than others. As stated before, it is not happening to everyone.
As far as fixing it, none of us here can do that. We are all merely members, just like you. If you are experiencing this problem and you want it to be fixed, report it to Ebay. My post above gives you the various different ways in which you can contact Ebay.
If you don't want to take the time to contact Ebay, that is your choice. If affected members don't report it, it will take much longer to fix as Ebay may not be aware of the issue.

How is this merely a glitch?

It is something that is most assuredly a result of some action in coding taken by eBay that resulted in this unexpected occurrence. Often attempts to solve an issue in one location cause a "problem" someplace else.
Call it a "glitch", "problem", "annoyance", or "typical" eBay occurrence, it is merely that. Be it any of these, there is no "assurance" that it will be corrected by now 😊, or by next week 😂
eBay 1st has to figure what "they" did to cause it. Likely not high on their "priority" list.

For those interested in letting Ebay know about the problem, below is a link to another thread on this subject. A member did take a moment to report the problem to Ebay and got a ticket number. Now the more that call and report this problem, referring to the ticket number, the likelihood it will get fixed faster.

Have you contacted Ebay and reported your problem?

No I’m not taking my good time reporting something that just shouldn’t be as I’m just now after 25 years here completely absolutely disgusted to the Nth degree with this platform.
Completely disgusted….Absolutely disgusted…

OK. Not sure what the length of time you have on the site has to do with it, but OK. FYI many of us have been here as long as you have.
Hopefully others won't have the same outlook and will report it so it is more likely to get fixed faster. But I respect that for you, the option just to sit back and wait is best for you.

I'm repeating the gallery photo as a second photo - quick workaround for now. There's pretty good ongoing chat on the tech board and a blue has stopped in.

I was, thinking of doing the "add a second photo", but then said to myself, oh well I'm not up to it.
With mine I often reference one or more of my photos by # to point thing out, and just don't have the will to do it. Another photo, and re-referencing photo #'s is to big of a hill to climb.
I have not gone to any linked threads, but I am wondering if perhaps this was an intentional change done by eBay to resize that 1st photo to make it fit some applications without thought of the repercussions of doing so.

A few have reported this doesn't work for them.
