Revise an item, it creates a dupe. End an auction early, it relists and creates a dupe. Auctions expire, and relist, it creates a dupe. Some items we find 3,4 dupes on.
We're getting listing fees for some of these, but it's taking so long to keep our store from being a mass of duplicates we don't have any time to try figure how how many dollars extra we are paying. We're spending more time deleting dupes than listing items.
We have reported this to Ebay, but it keeps happening HOW HARD CAN THIS BE GUYS I have developers who can help....

this is my answer to why duplicates happen
the simple answer is because when you make a change it keeps a copy sometimes
if you go to an unsold listings and edit/make a change, when you hit the save button then it makes a copy of a new draft.
you can then have a new draft and an old copy in your unsolds
this can be a real problem because then you have two listings for the same item
if you go to your drafts and upload them all one album can be doubled
if you go to all unsold listings and hit relist all, it can relist an active listing
you really need to pay attention when making an edit in unsold listings
even if you abandon an edit from unsold it makes a new draft
its a very real problem that you can relist an auction thats already active due to a saved draft
its a horrible feeling when an auction ends with a buyer and you realize you just shipped it last week

Not sure what you're referring to. Been here 26 years, never had a duplicate listing created, if that's what you mean. Not once. Not back when I did auctions & not on FP either.

I see two listings for the Art Deco Era Blue Glass Lamps and the Danbury Cadillac Convertible just on the first page. Vintage Shure and Sony Walkman, also. They're exact duplicates at least on the SERP. I also see some for the books.
Good grief - I've never seen anything like this!

@chapeau-noir Oh, yeah, I see the dupes too. At least I looked & saw the lamps, will take your word on the rest. I wonder if the OP has a check box somewhere to automatically relist auctions? I haven't done in an auction in a decade, so am not sure of all the options involved these days, but maybe they've got a box checked that shouldn't be & then are also re-starting the listing themselves?
Or perhaps OP is using 3rd party software to list & is accidentally duping them? This is certainly not a question we see regularly, so I think it's something in OP's process. I do see the account has been open since since 98, so not inexperienced, but low FB, so maybe don't list often? But this is not a widespread bug, it's something in the OP's processes.

Haven't had the system do dupes, but I know if you're editing a listing and back out of it ebay will create a draft.

When you revise an item and it creates a dupe, that usually means you clicked on "sell similar" by mistake. I've done it before. Any chance that could have happened?

Seems possible or even more likely simple seller error because they switched to 3rd party tools.
The Peter Pan Diddleywinks Game which is listed twice
The first listing shows no revisions
The second listing about an hour later, different listing number AND slight alteration of the description. This "dupe" also shows Inkfrog as the listing tool.
Same goes for the "dupe" of the Black Lace Trim Half Slip listing, one has Inkfrog the other doesn't, the time difference is about 18 hours, neither were revised.

I always blame human error above all else ... even when it comes to myself. 😉

I do, too, but this is kind of nutty-bizarre. I also wonder if it's 3rd party software.

@slippinjimmy I hadn't gone into the listings at all, but if one of each is (at least of the ones you looked at) is created via Inkfrog, than yup, it may be a lack of understanding of exactly what IF is doing for them. I checked the art deco blue lamp & it's the same pattern you found, 1 IF, 1 not, a little over an hour apart. As you noted, a 3rd party listing tool was on my shortlist. That said, I have never used IF, so IDK the settings that could be involved. But based on your post & my initial thought, sure sounds like IF is doing some kind of listing mgmt & OP is duplicating that effort themselves, probably b/c they don't realize IF is doing it too.
Could it be as simple as OP not realizing that they don't have to create a listing both on eBay & on IF? I don't think so b/c then I think it would have been obvious to OP that they were duping their work. Perhaps it's a setting within IF?
If @robbinsnest comes back, that would be helpful, but yeah, it's clearly something do with the 3rd party tool, IF. If OP comes back, we could perhaps put out a call for ppl who use Inkfrog that may be more familiar with what's going on or OP can call IF. I never used them, but I talked to them once & they were super helpful & able to answer all my techie questions in an in-depth manner.
ETA: I doubt it's an IF bug, as many people use IF & if it were bug, we'd likely have heard about it. There are sellers who have used IF for 15+ years.

Ebay says its a bug and they are working on it. There's a list they are keeping of people who are affected.

Again Ebay says it is a bug and they are working on it. Started happening about a week ago.

Ebay support told us it was a bug and they were working on it.
Inkfrog is a tool we tried to make listing things easier. It originates listings perfectly, and then once they are in the Ebay system they dupe.
Software has bugs, we get this, I've been in the software business for a very long time. Just want it fixed.
