I have an ongoing buy-it-now listing I have used for 6 years and counting. Last Friday I went into the listing to update quantity and add inventory. What I didn't notice was that when I did that I somehow also wiped out the description.
I contacted ebay support, no help there.
I figured I could just click into a sold item from this listing but no, it shows the current listing. Every version of the listing I can bring up has the current version with a blank descrption. It was complex enough of a listing I'd rather not re-write if anyone knows of a archive dot org / wayback machine that has old ebay listings in it. I am floored for legal reasons that ebay can't help me out and show what I previously had in it.

I search through your listings, looking for one without a description, to see if I could help you out with this.
Do you mean this listing?

Unfortunately, if that's it, then I'm afraid the description has been missing since long before last Friday. I found cached copies of that URL page dated Oct 2, 2021 and Aug 9, 2021. Neither of them had a description, so I couldn't recover the text for you.
The good news is that it seems to have been selling quite well, even without a description. The description had been revised previously, in 2019

Can you not go back to one that was sold and see that "original listing"? Wouldn't the text still be there? Should be on worthpoint or if you find a google one cached?

You would think it would be cached somewhere.
At Google Cache "The requested URL was not found on this server. That's all we know."
That's all I seem to find everywhere. It's like nobody except the NSA is archiving ebay. Except the NSA creepers don't share.

Exactly which listing was it? I picked a few of your current listings at random, plus one that you ended today as No Longer Available, and I see description text in all of them.

It should show up on worthpoint, but I do not subscribe. Maybe they have a free trial?
Which listing and I will search to see what I can find?

It's the skull one. I haven't found a cache yet.
eBay recently removed the ability to see the "original listing" through the sales history.

That's the one. Sorry you had to go digging for it but I really appreciate the help. I'll go rewrite it. Thank you! I was hoping more or less to also gain the skill to find old listings in case this ever were to happen again.

Seems to be fixed now, as of a few minutes ago...

Yep, that was the one. It was blank when I checked it just before I posted.
@realgetahelmet , you're fast! Can't have been too much of a job to rewrite it!

A full title search at worthpoint.com using your current listing title in its entirety did not return anything, but when I trimmed it down to "Ranger Pace Counting Beads" only, it returned several listings, including a couple where the photos showed what appeared to be your camouflage background, with this description:
"Ranger pace counter with skull beads and a black stainless steal niteize carbiner clipParacord color is multicam but if you would like a diffeent color just send me a message. The pace beads is perfect for keeping track on how far you have gone or how much water you have consumed. There are 4 skull beads on top and 9 beads on the bottom These are great for scouts, back packers, people who like dangling bits of string with beads on it or for anybody who thinks there cool."
You'll want to do some spellchecking and punctuation fixes first if planning to reuse that (Worthpoint seems to specialize in losing punctuation, wordspacing and linebreaks), but otherwise your listings look retrievable there if nowhere else, once you locate them.

By the revisions they got it fixed... Shows good now as you say.

I found a google webcache by searching for < ebay 172022790943 >
That will often locate a cached copy of an eBay listing, if it has been crawled by google. In this case, I found a version that was translated to Spanish, but there was no description included. And a bunch of webcaches for search results pages, which were no help as far as the description was concerned.
I also googled the title, in quotes, which located a webcache of the mobile version of the listing (for smartphones) but it also had no description.
