The buyer reported that an item hasn’t arrived - Digital Code

About a month ago I sold a digital code for a game that I didn't want, and now the buyer has raised a case stating that the didn't receive the item. I've looked into it and I can see that they've redeemed the code, so it feels pretty clear to me that they've used the code and are now trying to get their money back.

I listed the item as free postage which may have been my downfall here, but I've replied to the buyer a couple of times with no reply received from them, and I've reported the buyer to ebay, but is there anything else I can do / should try in order to stop this refund just going through?

@leighchilcott

You do realize that selling digital items is restricted on Ebay? You must be approved and very few if any are approved because of situations like this one you are posting about.    It's also a good way to have your account suspended.

Here's a link that can better explain:

Bottom line, give them their money back because you have no proof they received the code.  Sellers are required to sell tangible and physical items.

Have a great day.

1. Digital items is restricted and you have to be approved to do it

2. You have no proof of delivery so yes your buyer can and will get a complete refund

Maybe pay attention to what can and can't be listed on eBay

Your "buyer" got you. Sorry that happened to you. It happens with tangible items too.

Sorry, there's nothing you can do but refund the buyer and learn what you can and can't sell here.

Without tracking, you can't prove they received it.

Have a great day.

The item in question was a physical card with a scratch off panel for the digital code, so rather than sending the card I scratched off the panel and sent a photo of the code via ebay messages.

I do take your point though and didn't realise selling digital items was restricted on ebay.

Thanks for your reply.

So far as I know, the policy on digitally-delivered goods is the same for eBay UK as for eBay US, but you might put your question to the UK Community:

Because there is no tracking, ebay will find in the buyers  favor.

You have no choice but to refund.

Sorry.

You burned yourself. Should have shipped the card verses messaging the code. and like others have said that stuff is restricted.

As I said before, plenty of people doing it selling digital keys or even digital and/or illegit copies and even literal manufactured illegit copies and been doing so for long long long times.
