The Delaware affect

I've read a number of previous posts about a "scam artist" or at the very least, dishonest buyer located in Delaware seems to be the most talked about one.

I sell not only on ebay, but we have our online storefront (we sell used auto parts from our 2 wrecking yards) as well as 2 other e commerce platforms aside from ebay.

I've received an email from a customer who listed about 12 newer (2015-2020) vehicles that he's looking for 8-10 parts off of each one. On these newer cars, things like headlights are no longer just a matter of left or right anymore, at times there can be as many as 7 different options.

This also applies to the other types of parts he's asking about.

It would take many many many emails to sort out exactly what options and questions were needed for all of the parts, so I gave him our phone number (its not an ebay sale, so were not restricted in that fashion for this particular platform) and suggested he give us a call so we could more quickly and accurately look up all the items and get the questions right.

He responded that he provided the list of what he needs, and wants them sent to Delaware to his PO box. Having read what I've read about some people being scammed by a person or people in Delaware, it raised a red flag instantly, and the signature/name that he included at the end of this one, raises another red flag for me.

Does anybody out there thats been scammed happen to have a first name or any info I could tie to this email I received.

@randysauto01  I've sold to reshippers a lot (including New Castle, Delaware) and have never had problems, but the transaction you're talking about is extensive and very market-specific.  One thing to remember is that people bring their problems here, so very few come on and say "Oh, I just shipped to XYZ Delaware reshippers and it was GREAT", so it's hard to get an accurate picture on risk, and really tough for us to answer your question very accurately. 

I can totally see someone in Ukraine needing parts that you sell (I've sold bike parts there), and I would actually chat with him further since this is not, at this time, an eBay transaction, but I do think your colleagues on Facebook may have some better leads. 

If this person does find your parts on eBay, you'll just have to cross that bridge when you come to it, and we'd probably be more help to you on that, since it's moving into the policy and procedure area here.

The OP's buyer has a USA address. That's what the entire thread is about. Problem obviously not solved.

You sell on eBay and take managed payments.  You will be selling to international buyers that have a US address that is a re-shipper.

Thank you!  I've not received a follow up email from the customer after his last one.  The same site that he got my contact info from is set up the same way to look up parts as if he were to call in. So if he's truly interested in all the parts he inquired about, I'm going to let him do the leg work and use the site for what it was designed for...to look up parts. He can go through and answer all the questions necessary to ensure he's getting the right part, then its on him if guesses on a question and is wrong.
