I was just checking tracking for a buyer on USPS and I noticed this:
Your item is eligible for USPS Tracking Plus. This feature allows you to buy extended access to your tracking history and receive a statement via email upon request. Without this feature, your regular tracking history is only available on this site until December 23, 2022. To extend your access to this tracking history, select the length of time you would like and confirm your selection. You can only purchase extended history once, so all orders are final and are not eligible for a refund.
Note: For multiple tracking numbers, you can save and continue adding USPS Tracking Plus selections to your cart until you are ready to complete your purchase.
So no tracking after December 23, 2022, then we have to pay for each tracking number.

Yeah, no. It just means you can't track THIS package after December 23 without buying Tracking Plus. Come on, really.

USPS recycles tracking numbers after about 4 months. If you want to track a particular number for longer, you have to sign up.

It isnt true.
All that is saying is that they will no longer archive tracking numbers after 4 months from the day the number was issued. You can pay to have the data archived longer. It used to be that you could have archived tracking data brought back on-line for free within 4 hours of your on-line request. But now they are recycling tracking numbers after 4 months so if you want data on a specific shipment to be held for a longer period of time then you will have to pay for that.

ACTUALLY you do gave a solution if you want your tracking available for longer than 4 months. And it's free.
I ship everything through Pirateship. They record ON THEIR OWN SITE the proof of delivery information all the way back to the first package I ever shipped.
SO if I need proof of delivery past the 4 months I can retrieve the proof of delivery from Pirateship's files and it has proven valid on showing proof of delivery on more than one claim - which of course saved me having to give a refund.
