I had a feeling there be no sales today(as of yet) because taxes are due tomorrow.
I ponder and thought...we owe Uncle Sam and I will make my way to mail my check to him today.
I think of all the people who will be mailing out checks to Uncle Sam today and tomorrow.
Could there be hundreds or thousands? I have no idea.
And here's the kicker....we don't use any type of tracking to send a check to Uncle Sam...I owe a few hundred dollars.
And yet...some sellers will use ESE tracking to send a trading card that maybe was bought for 2 bucks.
I realize not everyone owes and some get a refund but I think it is just funny that someone wishes there be tracking on an item under $20. bucks.

Be safe everyone.

But, you can! You can always send your tax payment by Registered Mail with Return Receipt Requested.
Sure, it will cost you a couple dollars more, but you will receive a signed card with a signature from the IRS-person who accepted the mail-piece from the Post Office.
Same for our California Franchise Tax Board if you owe them money, too.

I understand what your saying, made me a tad nervous writing a physical check out and mailing it.
I just transfered the amount into my checking account used for ebay and PP and wrote a check from there. When I seen it had been cashed ( rather quickly) I called the CU and they told me who cashed it ( US treasury) Whew! They don't sit on payment checks long, they cash those puppies now!!

Did mine a long time ago, got the return, slammed the return into my 2025 IRA, which actually ended up being a bad idea seeing as how poorly the market has done since then.

What is this "mailing" you speak of? We file ours online. No tax refund - I don't believe in giving Uncle Sam money that I can invest better myself.
Is "slamming" the same as merely investing?

My tax return isn't due until April 30, but I sent it off with tracking (by express mail to make sure there's no accusation about getting it in late... they charge 10% of what you owe as a "fine" if you're late in Canada, for me that's $150, and I hate wasting money).
When you send a cheque though you know they have it, they deposit the cheque the day your tax return arrives.

I have complicated taxes, three T2125 forms, and I'm not sure how to file all three online with the appropriate deductions on each (mixing them will reduce what I can deduct). Seems easier to do it on the computer, print it, and mail it by Express (with the cheque).

Our taxes are complex, too, but it's mostly about sending checks through the mail (I don't even use checks but the DH still does). Particularly with the current chaos in this country, it just seems too insecure (sending via Express is a good idea - I'd say anyone using the snail mail method of filing should do something like that).

TBH, I wanted them to cash the cheque very fast and balance my chequebook.
But I'm a little bit of a technophobe when it comes to change, so I don't like the idea of filing online. Some day I will be forced to change, CRA (Revenue Canada) is trying to get everyone to change to some electronic filing method.

There was a line of old people waiting for my PO to open when I dropped off packages this morning. I expect scans will be backed up a day or two because of this.

We file online or my tax guy does but it was my reselling net that put us over the cliff so I paid the IRS. I love the way you write cheque makes it sound so elegant ( when it's not, yuk burns my bum!!!)

I had to pay tax too because of online selling (it kind of couldn't be avoided) but thanks to all sorts of deductions we get with Revenue Canada, it lowered my taxable income quite a bit so my tax payment wasn't too much.
Check is a Canadian word too (but when you say "check" you mean "check the check engine light" if you're in Canada). The cheque is the money one (and it's elegant to be on the receiving end of those).
