Switching to a BUSINESS account- questions

Hi All-

I have been running my Ebay sales through my business (LLC) the past few years.

Paypal has always sent me a 1099 with my business EIN on it (not my personal SS#)

Now that Ebay has switched me over to Managed Payments, and i will now get a 1099 from Ebay- I realized that Ebay has me as a personal account, and will send me a 1099 for 2020 under my ss# (which I don't want) so I am thinking I need to switch to a business account.

My questions:

Has anyone made the switch from a Personal to Business Ebay account, and were there any snags in the process?

Is it a simple process of just filling out a new W9, or does it get involved? If so, what will I need to prepare for?

After switching to a business account, does Ebay send your 1099 using your business' EIN #?

I switched to a buisness account at ebay in order to get some extra free promotions,its just a matter of clicking a button and thats it,very simple to do

if you are signed in to ebay,go to your name and hover,account seetings will pop up.go there and click on personal or buisnes  and it takes you right to type of account and you just hit edit

when I did It before I was sort of surprised that it really made no difference when switched to a business account.it was easy to do

@exoticatropicals  - there were some recent posts from MP sellers that said the option to switch to Business account wasn't there, or was greyed out.

You may need to have a Business Bank Account to have an eBay Business Account under Managed Payments, although it's not really clear if that's the case.

If you don't have the option to change from Personal to Business, you can call eBay CS and ask - scroll to the bottom of this Help page for the  "Have us call you" option.

Yeah it seems the actual path to use is

My Ebay> Account Tab >Personal Information

then there should be an "edit" link next to "account type"

oddly, I don't have that link- even though the bank account I have associated with my MP is a business account.

Guess I will have to call them 😕

Calling them for guidance is really the best thing to do.  Because if OOPs and change something you shouldn't it could cause your payments to get held up.

For myself, I have my account set up as a business account, under my personal name and SSN.  My bank account is also a personal account under the exact same name as my Ebay registered name.  I am also in MP.

But I think you are on the right track, you should call so you don't accidentally cause a problem that may be hard to work out of.

follow up on this for those that need help switching.

as i noted above, my option to edit my personal account and make it a business account was greyed out.

I had Ebay support call me using that "call me now" option at the bottom of support pages.

the support guy I randomly got didn't seem to know anything about what i was explainging to him, and i was just about to get off the line to play operator-roulette again, when he found something and got the edit link activated for me.

so then i was able to switch to the business account via the path noted above.

What you will need:

your EIN and business name

a bank account in the same name as the business- they will require you to re-establish your MP bank account using the login to your bank verification process.

They also needed some info about me, and the business type- fairly basic stuff.

so im switched over now, but im expecting up to a 48 hour delay on payment due to having to reauthorize the bank account.. so maybe time your switch accordingly 🙂
