Can eBay suspend your account if you try creating a new account to sell on? Is it allowed to have more than one selling account on eBay? Just wondering. Thank you.

It depends on why you are setting up that second account.
Not allowed
Registering new accounts or using other existing accounts to avoid buying and selling restrictions or limits or other policy consequences.

You can have more than 1 selling account, as long as you don't use multiple accounts to avoid selling limits placed on your original account.

Is it not allowed to create a 2nd seller account in order to take advantage of the free monthly insertion fees? The standard 50 free insert listings.

How could ebay tell whether you had opened the second account in order to get another 50 free insertions vs the usual valid reasons such as wanting to sell two different types of merchandise? The only specific policy, as mentioned above, is against opening a second account in order to avoid limits that had been placed on the first account. I have been selling under multiple non-store accounts for years, with no problems.

Actually I have seen posts on here advising those who are not getting the freebies to open another account to get 50 more free listings.

It is allowed, and many sellers do it. Free monthly listings are not a "selling limit" or a "selling restriction".
"There are many reasons why users would choose to have more than one eBay account. For example, users who like to buy and sell may want separate accounts for each activity. Other users who maintain businesses on eBay may prefer to manage separate accounts for different product lines.
Whether you have one account or more, eBay expects users to manage each of their accounts effectively in order to meet the highest buyer and seller standards. These standards and rules regarding performance, risk, and best practices are applicable for each account and help ensure a safe and positive experience on eBay."

It happened to me before. I started a second account to "spin off" some of my listings. My idea was to use one to list my primiary items that I sell and to use the other for random finds or things around the house. My plan was to do this gradually as items sold and new items were being listed. It was shut down after a few months. I didn't have any selling limits so that wasn't an issue. They said in my case it was because I was selling the same types of items on both accounts which was apparantly not allowed. I don't know if they determine this by catagory or what. I tried to ask for specifics, but they couldn't really provide any other than you can't list similar items on multiple accounts. I ended up giving up on the idea and just listing everything on one account. If I would have known about this originally I could have just ended all of the listings on one account and listed them on the other, but I had no idea and never did see anything about it in any of the ebay policies before or after. Something to be aware of though.

Amazing how they got so worried about your second account would be used as a Listing items spam in same category as your primarily account when it isn't the case . Yet they are blind to Chinese sellers that do spam category's with several accounts and don't take them down fast .

That's terrible. I think somebody misunderstood the policy.
The "duplicate listings policy" says that you can't list identical items on two accounts at the same time. But the fact that the policy is so specific, implies that listing the same item on two different accounts but NOT at the same time is OK, as is listing not-identical (but similar) items on two accounts simultaneously. You just have to describe the items carefully so that eBay's stupid bots don't think they are identical.
