String of fraudulent purchases from dozens of new accounts to the same unverified address

So, I have endured a string of dozens of purchases from new accounts that are clearly fraudulent accounts.  All accounts were only a day or two old, all bought one or two .99 cent items and several new accounts are using the same first name with all different user IDs.  The biggest give away was that all the accounts save one, were to have the item(s) purchased be shipped to a remote location in Oregon -

13822 NE Airport Way
Portland ,  OR 97251-9614

I looked up this address, it claims to be a business called "ReShip".   I checked the BBB for information on this company and the BBB had only this information taken from the BBB website -

Licensing:

On 12/16/2016 BBB confirmed that ReShip.com had not obtained a necessary license from Oregon Secretary of State. BBB encourages you to contact the following agency or agencies to confirm this information - ID # 5039862200

Furthermore, all the accounts had names that DID NOT correspond to the name on the Paypal payment.   As a seasoned eBay seller, it was clear that all the accounts were fake and were more than likely using stolen credit card numbers and purchasing small value items to "test" if a stolen credit card works.

ALL the buyers had a similar string of gibberish after the first name under the shipping address

BSFMZZMZ

and others had this one

-  NST610

I would not be surprised if others show up or have shown up elsewhere.  I want to hear from other eBay sellers if they are experiencing similar issues.  I cannot find any way to report a fraudulent "buyer" account, eBay does not have that option anywhere that I can find.  They only offer the ability to report fake "seller" accounts and spoof emails.  This does not help one bit when you are constantly having to cancel and block fake buyer accounts.  It starts to waste precious time having to do all this and have no way to report it or stop it.  eBay needs to get off its gold plated rear end and do something!  They should be able to spot patterns of fraudulent accounts.  All these accounts have similar things in common with all different names.  They are being created to "test" purchase to see if stolen credit cards work and it needs to stop ASAP eBay!

They cannot boot you from eBay for cancelling orders that are invalid.  Every seller has that right.  I have already received several notifications from Paypal that many of the purchases were made with a stolen credit card and with a stolen ID.  Not only that but almost all of the 48+ new fake accounts are now Unregistered.   They buy, then close the account after a few purchases of expensive items.  We have been through this before so seeing the fraud indicators were pretty much a given.  We wanted to know if other sellers are currently experiencing the same thing.

I'm glad you know the red flags to watch out for. It's scammer **bleep** like this that makes me really hesitant to sell my electronics on ebay. I have items worth hundreds of dollars and I've read too many posts about how sellers constantly get screwed by Paypal (even if they have evidence of a scam). I don't want to chance losing my money and/or my products to a system to which I have no recourse.

Just as a heads up, you're wrong that they close the accounts. Only ebay can shut down accounts that quickly. So yes, that shows there was fraud afoot.

Sounds like your situation is similar to what this seller experienced. https://community.ebay.com/t5/Selling/Fraud-orders-on-my-store/m-p/30913027/highlight/true#M1590375

Re: String of fraudulent purchases from dozens of new accounts to the same unverified address

Sounds like someone testing stolen credit card numbers.

Scammer buys a bunch on them on the dark web, then proceed to either manually or using a bot test them at first with small transactions to verify whether the CC have been reported as stolen and cancelled yet. They also use those small purchases to check the card's limits, daily transaction limits and whether the actual cardholder is quick to dispute unknown charges before moving on to bigger purchases.

Good luck trying to find an eBay rep who would recognize the pattern and understand why you need to cancel 40+ purchases...

Re: String of fraudulent purchases from dozens of new accounts to the same unverified address

As an international buyer , we use freight forwarder service often because the shipping cost is more affordable for us.

It is definitely not a scam LOL. It’s just a forwarder address as I’m using also. The last name is user unique ID to represent the package belongs to a certain account (so that they know the package belongs to you. Easy as that.

There is always new people joining eBay and buy from there. I never use eBay before doesn’t meant I don’t use now. Why categories new user as a scammer? I really don’t understand LOL. I met one seller before when i did my first purchase. Even i feel offended but it’s totally fine because all my transactions and purchases from other sellers went smoothly.

Re: String of fraudulent purchases from dozens of new accounts to the same unverified address

Hello, those buyers are not scams but rather they are using a freight forwarding company, hence the gibberish on their name/address, because shipping directly to our country is expensive. ^^ It's something like those Proxy Shopping companies, but in our case, we buy directly to the sellers and have the items shipped to our "proxy" US address to save from shipping expenses.

The gibberish on the names/address helps identify who the items belong to, it's kinda like a username/ user ID.

Re: String of fraudulent purchases from dozens of new accounts to the same unverified address

Nothing you can do about the negative, cancelling an order on a hunch is not good form so you deserved the red dot. The address was a FF

You also lied in your reply to the feedback. You said 'never even paid' and yet here you admit 'I refunded them'

Which was it ?

You cannot possible close your own account, or even have ebay do it for you, if you've had a recent transaction (within the last 30-60 days). So that is false.

If the account has been NARU'd it means ebay flagged it as a scam account, so about that part you would be right. But no, you cannot close the account yourself that quickly or ask ebay to do it.

Maybe start a new thread, as advised above this is very old, also bad idea to include a personal email address, please watch for scammers that may have seen this on a public forum

Trust your instincts on this.  Don't pay attention to the eBay shills who'd defend them no matter what your complaint.  Sorry about this scam.  I had it happen so ceased selling and closed PayPal account.
