Strange Offer

I have two listings for bone china place settings (all the same). One listing is for seven place settings at a fixed price of $99 per set. Another is a single set of the same china for a starting auction of $66 because the dinner plate has a small flaw. I listed it yesterday.  I received an offer of $150 for the flawed set. The buyer has no track record. Something seems off to me. Why offer me more than double the starting auction price for a flawed set when the buyer could buy a non-flawed set for $99 outright?

This is a scam.  Decline the offer and block the buyer.

Think logically, as you are. NO one is going to pay more than the price of the item.

It's a scam, which after purchasing, the buyer will tell you he's having a problem with making payment and will need your phone number or email to send evidence of his payment.

You'll then get a fake receipt from Paypal telling you that the payment was made and you should ship. But there's no payment and you'll lose the item without being paid for it.

Block the buyer and cease communication.

Another suggestion: Mention "flaw" or "flawed" in the title and list as a fixed price with immediate payment.

That way, item won't be considered sold until payment is complete.

FWIW, I wouldn't sell that plate. It appears to have been broken and reglue and will likely result in a NAD return.

Because you are a comparatively new seller, someone thinks he can take advantage of your inexperience and run a number on you.  You spotted his scam, though, and good for you.  Do not even reply to this.  Add the User-ID to your Blocked Buyer List.

Thank you, everyone for all your advice. I blocked the seller and took down the listing.

And you took down the listing because . . .?

Someone suggested that it was better not to sell the damaged dinner plate. While it had not been reglued as that person thought, because I haven't used these dishes much, I don't know how well it will stand up with use.  I will sell the other pieces of that set separately.
