Store vs No Store

I have the basic store of 250 items.  I previously used my listings and at times would get an email that mentioned that I would have 100- 200 more free listings.  Is this still the case?  Does ebay hand out a bunch of additional free listing each month without store?  I list about 250 to 270 each month.

It's been a long time since ebay has sent any of those special offers. I don't think they have done them since they increased the monthly number of listings last year.

Re: Store vs No Store

There are no "free" listings with a Store.

You pay a set subscription fee every month, whether you have any listing or none.

If you use all the "free" listings available to you, your cost for each one drops, but they are not free.

There are a few other perks for having a Store.

  • You are charged a lower FVF on sales (and on shipping if you use Free Shipping-- another misnomer).
  • You can organize your products into your own categories.  So that if your customer is only interested in bowling balls, she can go to that sub-category (I think of them as aisles in my Store) and not see bowling balls interspersed with tennis rackets and PowerPuffGirl  memorabilia.
  • You may get Promotional offers of thousands of truly free listings. I don't think I have used any of my Store listings this entire year, and usually have eight to ten thousand still available at the end of the month. One result is that I have downgraded my Premium Store to a Basic Store.
  • But unless you use all your promotional listings you are still paying that monthly subscription.

EBay wants the subscriptions as a steady cash flow. Keep in mind that eBay promotions are for the benefit of eBay.

EBay is your landlord not your friend.

If you are using all your 250 Free /No Store listings and have even more items that you would like to list, take a MONTHLY subscription to a Basic Store.

Keep records and see if it is worth it to you.

With the monthly subcription, you can cancel with no penalty if you don't like it.

Re: Store vs No Store

@tntzauctions Haven't seen many general free offers with or without a store these days.  We used to get some without a store, though, especially around the holidays.

Are you sure you have a basic store and not a starter store?  Based on your listings, you seem to be converted to managed payments and mostly used fixed price listings, so you should have more than 250 listings already.

Stores with managed payments:

Even if you have no store at all, you still get 250 free listings per month.

If by chance you really have a starter store instead and want more listings, you might want to consider upgrading to a Basic store instead.

If you just need a few more listings, you might consider opening a second account without a store and that one will get 250/month free too.  That's what I did a while back when I didn't have enough free listings.  I Let my store concentrate on the collectibles selling and the other non-store account on the few other things I needed to get rid of from my basement!
